He can rhyme about anything; girls, life in the hood, how bad-ass he is, how commercial and weak rap has become, etc. He spits some pretty thought-provoking shit (Beautiful
, Big City
), and even does a couple of really good concept rhymes (Alphabet Soup
, Soda & Soap (feat. Jean Grae)
), where he wrote a verse using all the letters of the alphabet as words, and utilizing different names of soda and soap brands as words in his rhymes, respectively.
Despite his undoubtedly amazing albums, he remains an unspoken master...(until I heard of him, then I told pretty much every one of my friends in the area) :) Only a handful of people I'm friends with had ever heard of Masta Ace before I told them about him. Masta Ace clearly doesn't get the credit he deserves for dropping so many hot albums, even with his group Masta Ace Incorporated, with whom he released Sittin' on Chrome
(which I have heard and can attest is an amazing album with the illest jazz beats ever), and SlaughtaHouse
(which I still haven't heard).
