1. The Beatles - 637 scrobbles
I confess that I am one of the many suckers who shelled out a crapload of money to buy the remasters that came out in September. They certainly sound better than the original '87 CD releases, but unless you have a really good stereo system (which I don't) the difference isn't big enough to be worth all that money. Still, at least I finally completed my collection and now I'm forced to admit that there are some very good songs in their early catalog.

2. Opeth - 488
This is mostly back-catalog listening. Opeth released Watershed in '08 and I still had it on heavy rotation for much of this year. I don't think it was their best album to date, but it was very good and I like the direction they're heading in. I'm looking forward to a new album sometime in 2010.

2. Bob Dylan - 488
This is all back-catalog listening. Dylan released two albums this year, neither of which I bought. And based on the reviews, I don't intend to.

4. Johann Sebastian Bach - 468
What is there to say? Timeless.

5. Bruce Springsteen - 420
In one sense this is all back-catalog listening. The newest Springsteen album I own is The Rising from 2002. But earlier this year I bought The River from 1980. It's a mixed album. There are great songs like the title track and "Hungry Heart" and there are no bad songs. But unlike most Springsteen albums, it felt like a collection of random songs; their sum was no greater than the parts.

5. Mastodon - 417
I discovered Mastodon late last year. I bought Leviathan in December '08 and by the middle of this year I'd bought their complete catalog. Crack The Skye is my absolute favorite album of '09. From what I hear there'll be no new album in 2010 which is fine with me since (a) I'll still be listening to Crack The Skye on heavy rotation for a while and (b) I have no idea how they can possibly top themselves.

7. Marisa Monte - 394
Love her voice. Always have, probably always will. And I absolutely love the lyrics that Arnaldo Antunes writes for many of her songs. Her last album was in 2006; Here's hoping there'll be another one in 2010.

8. Pink Floyd - 358
I have finally come to terms with the fact that I only like 70's Pink Floyd. I gave up trying to like their psychedelic stuff from the 60's and I've always been lukewarm about their glossy cinematic rock from the 80's. I used to own their entire catalog but now I'm selling everything pre-Meddle and postThe Wall to free up some space on my CD shelf. Still, I like the stuff from the 70's so much that I don't expect them to drop out of this top-10 list next year.

8. Metallica - 358
After all these years, still one of my favorites. Death Magnetic was a good comeback album after the underrated but ultimately unsuccessful experiment that was St. Anger. And though it came out in 2008, I listened to it pretty heavily throughout most of this year. Who knows when they'll get around to recording another album! In the meantime there's a lot of good stuff in their back catalog to keep me satisfied. Maybe I'll revisit Ride The Lightning sometime in 2010.

10. Iron Maiden - 356
Like Pink Floyd, I've come to accept the fact that I don't like Iron Maiden as much as I once did. With the exception of Brave New World and a few scattered tracks, I think most of their post-Powerslave output is pretty weak. Also like Pink Floyd, I'll probably start selling some of their CDs to make room on my shelf.

Dama da dor de cotovelo, triste, melodramática e qualquer outro adjetivo down já foram associados à Dolores Duran. Felizmente, 50 anos após sua morte, sua música é apreciada por novas gerações e há uma espécie de “redescoberta” de sua importância para a história da música popular brasileira. Não é para menos, além de grande compositora, Dolores era excelente intérprete - até Ella Fitzgerald elogiou sua versão para My Funny Valentine. Se parte das canções apresentavam um tom melancólico, outras eram alegres e inspiradas como Estrada do sol, em parceria com Tom Jobim, que festeja até os pingos da chuva.

Dolores flertou com a bossa nova e só não participou mais ativamente porque morreu precocemente, em 24 de outubro de 1959, pouco antes do movimento estourar no Brasil e no mundo. Após sua morte, teve canções cantadas pela nata da MPB em inúmeras coletâneas e homenagens. Por Causa de Você ganhou versão em inglês – Don't Ever Go Away – e foi gravada por Frank Sinatra em seu disco Sinatra & Company, em 1971.

Hoje, Dolores Duran é considerada a primeira grande compositora da história da MPB, parceira de Tom Jobim e Billy Blanco; precursora da bossa nova, ótima letrista e intérprete. Neste aniversário de morte, alguns discos em sua homenagem foram (re)lançados, bem como livros biográficos. Até uma dramatização de sua vida figurou em um programa televisivo produzido pela Rede Globo, dentro da série Por Toda a Minha Vida.

Dos discos comemorativos, o que mais chamou a atenção foi o CD Entre Amigos, lançado pelo selo Biscoito Fino, que emocionou todo fã da cantora: reproduções de uma jam session realizada na casa de Geraldo Casé, em que participam Dolores, Baden Powell, Manoel da Conceição e Chiquinho do Acordeom. Como bônus, o CD traz três faixas-bônus de um distante 1953, gravadas na casa do casal Marques de Azevedo, avós da cantora Marisa Monte.

Dizem por aí que ainda existem canções inéditas. Só nos resta esperar.

Bem, eu tava rodando a Lastfm e então encontrei um post muito interessante, do andrgsilva, Estatísticas curiosas sobre o gosto dos brasileiros na LAST, e então vi que era de Janeiro de 2008, mais de 1 ano, quase 1 ano e meio atrás, e resolvi postar um de agora, atualizado, de Julho de 2009.

Em 2008 os três artistas nacionais mais ouvidos pelos brasileiros eram, respectivamente: Los Hermanos, Chico Buarque e Legião Urbana.

Apenas 3 artistas nacionais ouvidos pelos brasileiros entre os 50 mais, 1 ano e meio atrás. Agora, com a morte de Michael Jackson, ele está no top 1 disparado, com 6.426 execuções, 499 na frente dos Beatles, segundo colocado.

Caraleo, não mudou nada de 1 ano pra cá ashuauhs. E os brasileiros continuam menosprezando a música nacional. Claro, sem generalizar, eu mesmo sou um dos que não é grande fã de música nacional, gosto muito de Los Hermanos, inclusive tá entre as 10 bandas qe eu mais ouço, e Móveis Coloniais de Acaju, algumas bandas menos conhecidas também fazem um som bom, mas não gosto muito. O top 15 da última semana de artistas nacionais foi:

Ano passado nós tinhamos ainda no top 20: Pato Fu, Artista Desconhecido (EAOIEUAOEUOEA grande cantor, sou fãzão dele, faz um show como nenhum outro), Skank, Os Mutantes e Elis Regina. Hoje temos de novos: Fresno, Cazuza, Vanessa da Mata, Charlie Brown Jr., Móveis Coloniais de Acaju e Marisa Monte.

Bandas novas ou sem muita tradição na música popular brasileira estão tomando espaço, como Fresno e o Móveis, enquanto bandas com muita tradição como Skank estão sendo menos ouvidas, parece que os brasileiros estão abrindo suas mentes para novas músicas menos conhecidas.

E também ouvindo mais música, e a quantidade de brasileiros está maior também. Éée, brasileiros dominando a Lastfm.

Mas, bandas que não são muito ouvidas pelos brasileiros tem muita tradição com os gringos, o Sepultura mesmo com 11 milhões, quase 12, de execuções !

Mas as bandas menos aclamadas pela mídia também parecem ser muito ouvidas, o Móveis por exemplo já tem 1 milhão de execuções, e é muito conhecida entre os ouvintes frequentes de música.



E é isso ae galere, aberto a críticas e elogios, claro ^^
