I disagree, there is more synth on F+F, and its more structured. I think the best place to start for a hold steady fan is half dead and dynamite, its got more of a loose rock style, although the lyrical style on F+F is more remeniscent of the hold steady.

I think somebody who is into The Hold Steady and hasn't yet been exposed to Lifter Puller would be best to start with Fiestas + Fiascos before moving onto Half Dead and Dynamite/Soft Rock. F+F foreshadows Hold Steady's style and shows more of the loose lyrical style you might be used to, Jabsta.

Nassau coliseum...at the end it he's just naming a bunch of cities or other locations, which is kind of a cliche for a singer without much else to say...but it is so sarcastic (and completely jumping all over the map), and then, "I wanna fuck you, I wanna fuck you...out in long island". I love it. Also, the image of a bloodied, martyred hippy is great.

Pretentious website aside, both bands are fantastic " I don't think it was irrational, Lifter Puller isn't the kind of bind that will appeal to a large range of people. Do I disagree with their opinion? Yes. Do I find their opinion surprising? No. And to be fair, they gave Half Dead and Dynamite a good review. Fiestas wasn't nearly as good as Half Dead was. I love Lifter Puller, but Fiestas really isn't that good of an album
