Sat 17 Oct – Levellers, Infidelity, Big Sleep (acoustic)

Η διάσημη αυτή φράση του Proudhon, φημισμένου αναρχικού φιλόσοφου, αποτελεί και το σήμα κατατεθέν των Levellers. Την βλέπεις να είναι γραμμένη στα προϊόντα τους που πουλάνε, στη σελίδα τους στο ίντερνετ, αλλά κυρίως τη βλέπεις να είναι αποτυπωμένο το νόημα της στα τραγούδια τους. Τα τραγούδια τους λοιπόν όλα με καθαρό πολιτικό περιεχόμενο μας τα παρουσίασαν στον ανέλπιστα γεμάτο χώρο του Block 33. Ανέλπιστα γεμάτο μια και πληροφορίες λέγανε ότι μία μέρα πριν, στην Αθήνα παίξανε με το ένα τέταρτο του κόσμου. Περίεργο.

Με το μπήκαμε, ήδη οι δικοί μας Infidelity παίζανε το πρώτο τους τραγούδι. Είναι η τρίτη φορά που τους βλέπω, μετά από τη συναυλία τους μαζί με τους Closer πριν 3 χρόνια και την περσινή τους – παρουσίαση του τελευταίου τους δίσκου μαζί με τους 2L8 στην Αίγλη. Την πρώτη φορά είχαν κλέψει την παράσταση κατά τη γνώμη μου, κάτι που δεν το καταφέρανε στην Αίγλη λόγω κυρίως της κακής ακουστικής του χώρου για τέτοιου είδους live και γενικών προβλημάτων στον ήχο. Αυτή τη φορά παρουσιάστηκαν σαφώς βελτιωμένοι με ήχους όπου ήταν έντονη η αναφορά τους στην αγγλική σκηνή των 90ς. Δεμένη και καλοδουλεμένη μπάντα πλέον, με ευχάριστη παρουσίαση επί σκηνής με τον μπροστάρη τους να έχει έντονες σκηνικές αναφορές στους Jarvis Cocker-Brett Anderson και κυρίως Ian Curtis. Το ακορντεόν στα τελευταία τους τραγούδια έδωσε μια ιδιαίτερη folk νότα, που τους πάει κιόλας πάρα πολύ, δηλαδή ότι πρέπει πρόγευμα για τους Levellers

Οι οποίοι δεν άργησαν πολύ να ανεβούν. Ήμουν περίεργος για το πώς θα παρουσιαζόταν η μπάντα με τον κλασικό folk-rock-punk ήχο τους. Οι μέρες τις ακμής τους έχουν περάσει όταν ήταν headliners στο μεγαλύτερο μάλλον ροκ φεστιβάλ της Ευρώπης το Glastonbury το 1994. Ήταν λοιπόν μία μπάντα σε παρακμή η οποία πλέον γυρίζει δεξιά και αριστερά αναθυμούμενη τις παλιές ένδοξες μέρες; Όποιος έχει παρατηρήσει την πορεία τους καταλαβαίνει πως όχι. Οι Levellers εξ αρχής είχαν διαλέξει ένα δικό τους δρόμο, αντισυμβατικό και αντιεμπορικό συγχρόνως. Ποτέ δεν τα πήγαιναν καλά με τα ΜΜΕ μια και ούτε η δημοσιότητα, ούτε το κέρδος ήταν σκοπός τους. Το παραπάνω αφήνει ένα μεγάλο πεδίο για να δράσει η μουσική και οι στίχοι τους επί σκηνής. Και η μπάντα έκανε ότι περνούσε από το χέρι της για να το απολαύσουμε. Παρόλα τα περίσσια χρόνια πλέον που είναι εμφανώς χαραγμένα πάνω τους τα έδωσαν και την ψυχή τους κατά τη μία ώρα κ ένα τέταρτο που παίξανε. Η ενεργητικότητα και το πάθος που έδειξαν πραγματικά με ξάφνιασε ακόμα κ όταν έβλεπες ότι οι δυνάμεις τους είναι λίγες μπροστά σ’ αυτά που θέλανε να δώσουν. Δεν μπορώ να μην κάνω αναφορά στον “fiddler boy” Jon Sevink που με το βιολί του σβούριζε ακατάπαυστα, τους Simon Friend και Mark Chadwick, τους κιθαρίστες και φωνές που μας παρουσίασαν τα υπέροχα τραγούδια τους και κυρίως αεικίνητο σκηνικά μπασίστα τους Jez Cunningham. Από τις πιο εμβληματικές φιγούρες που έχω δει ποτέ μου ζωντανά. Κερασάκι στην τούρτα ήταν ο “ Monkey Stephen” όπου με το didgeridoo του (google it :P) σε δύο τραγούδια τους έδωσε μια τρελή και εντυπωσιακή εικόνα στη συναυλία.

Όσον αφορά τώρα το playlist ήταν πραγματικά υποδειγματικό και σύμφωνο με στα γούστα μου. Έπαιξαν κοντά στα 20 τραγούδια δίνοντας μεγάλη βαρύτητα στα πρώτα χρόνια της δημιουργίας τους με έμφαση το Levelling the Land, όπου παίξανε σχεδόν όλο το δίσκο (7 στα 10 τραγούδια). Χορέψαμε με όλες τις επιτυχίες τους, από το Riverflow, Liberty Song, Boatman, Barrel of the Gun (δικό μου αγαπημένο) στο One Way (από τις καλύτερες στιγμές) και στο πρόσφατο The Cholera Well. Η ευχάριστη ωστόσο έκπληξη ήταν το Devil Went To Georgia των Charlie Daniels Band, όπου μας πρόσφεραν τον άτυπο διαγωνισμό του βιολιστή με τον διάβολο. Όπως είναι φυσικό σε τέτοιο επίπεδο ο βιολιστής είναι πάντα νικητής, όσο και να γελάει ο διάβολος.

Οι Levellers δεν προσφέρουν σύγχρονο, πρωτοποριακό ήχο. Ούτε πας να τους παρακολουθήσεις για τον μουσικό πλουραλισμό τους. Ωστόσο είναι από τις σπάνιες φορές που δεν σε νοιάζει καθόλου αυτό. Γιατί αυτό που έχουν να προσφέρουν είναι η πολιτική και άκρως μουσική άποψη τους για τη ζωή. Έχουν χαράξει το δικό τους δρόμο αγνοώντας το star system παλεύοντας μέσω της μουσικής τους για τα πιστεύω τους όχι μόνο σε επίπεδο στίχων αλλά και έργων. Κατά τη γνώμη μου αποτελούν από τις λίγες αυθεντικές φωνές που υπάρχουν. Θα είναι από τις συναυλίες όπου με καμάρι θα λέω ότι είδα.

Sat 17 Oct – Levellers, Infidelity, Big Sleep (acoustic)

Η χτεσινή βραδιά ξεκίνησε νωρίς. Πρώτος εμφανίστηκε ο Stefan Schwerdtfeger , με το καθιερωμένο -ανιαρό κατ'εμέ- ακουστικό setlist του one-man-band σχήματος Big Sleep. Ήταν κάτι που εξαρχής ήθελα, ειλικρινά, να αποφύγω. Σέβομαι την πορεία του...συμπολίτη γερμανού καλλιτέχνη, αλλά διαφωνούμε εκ θέσεως στη συναυλιακή θεώρηση των πραγμάτων, των ανέμων και των υδάτων! Λίγο μετά τις 10 που έφτασα στο χώρο, είχαν μόλις ανέβει στη σκηνή οι άλλοι δευτεραγωνιστές, Infidelity. Ο Yusaku μού θύμισε ότι τους είχαμε ξαναδεί ως support στους Closer, πριν από λίγα χρόνια. Δεν έχω καν οπτική ανάμνηση από τους τελευταίους, πόσω μάλλον...μουσική! Ένα πλήρες, ολοστρόγγυλο, μηδενικό κενό! Αντίθετα με ό,τι θυμάμαι από τους βορειοελλαδίτες Infidelity. Καλή εντύπωση τότε, ακόμη καλύτερη τώρα. Υποδειγματικοί στο στήσιμό τους επί σκηνής, με 90's ύφος που είχε σαφείς αναφορές στο ξεκίνημα του 80's κύματος. Ήχος, παρουσία, φωτισμός έδωσαν ένα σύνολο που αδίκησε μόνο η κάπως ετεροχρονισμένη μουσική πραμάτεια τους. Για αυτό που επέλεξαν να εκφράσουν ήταν πάντως άψογοι. Προλόγισαν επάξια τους σπουδαίους Levellers. Οι οποίοι μας χάρισαν μια καταπληκτική συναυλία. Στάθηκαν ως γνήσιοι γιοι της πολυτάλαντης γηραιάς αλβυόνας, έχοντας αυτή την εγγλέζικη κλάση που δύσκολα βρίσκεις στους ομόγλωσσούς τους της άλλης όχθης του ατλαντικού-αν εξαιρέσεις την αυθεντική μαύρη μουσική. Ο κόσμος κάθε άλλο παρά λίγος ήταν, και απογοητευμένοι πρέπει να έφυγαν μόνο όσοι δεν είχαν καμιά ιδέα για το τί είναι και τί παίζουν οι βρετανοί-κι ήταν αρκετά άτυχοι να έχουν διαφορετικά γούστα. Δε φάνηκε πάντως κοινό της δοκιμής, αλλά αντίθετα, της επιλογής. Προσωπικά χάρηκα τη ζωντανότατη εμφάνιση των Levellers με την καρδιά μου! Ζήσαμε υπέροχες στιγμές με τις τραγουδάρες του δεύτερου άλμπουμ "The Boatman" και "One Way", ανάμεσα στις οποίες ο Stephen "the Monkey" Boakes απογείωσε με το didjerido του το "This Garden", μετατρέποντας τη σκηνή σε σκέτο τσίρκο! Λίγο μετά την μία ώρα ήρθε το πρώτο τέλος. Κορυφαία επιστροφή στο encore με το "The Devil went down to Georgia" των Charlie Daniels Band που έχει διασκευαστεί από τους βρετανούς στο ομώνυμο της μπάντας τέταρτο άλμπουμ τους. Αξιομνημόνευτα και τα "Carry Me", "Beautiful Day", "Come On" και "The Cholera Well".
υγ: είκοσι χρόνια στο κουρμπέτι, και παραμένουν πιστοί και αληθινοί στα πιστεύω τους, μουσικά και ιδεολογικά! Αυτούς τους Levellers πήγαμε να δούμε, να ακούσουμε και να στηρίξουμε-και το άξιζαν με το παραπάνω!

+ η ευχάριστη έκπληξη: η ζεστή ατμόσφαιρα από τον εξαιρετικό κόσμο, και ακόμη περισσότερο από τον φίλο dj Aza κι όλη την παλιοπαρέα...
- η δυσάρεστη έκπληξη: ήθελα να ακούσω κάτι κουφά κομμάτια, αλλά ποιος εγωπαθής ασχολείται με προσωπικές προτιμήσεις μετά από τέτοια εμφάνιση...
