Reading, Reino Unido

Laura Beatrice Marling é uma cantora e compositora de indie-folk. Nasceu em Reading, Berkshire, Inglaterra, no dia 1º de fevereiro de 1990.

Laura tem uma grande troca de conhecimentos com bandas da Inglaterra, seja por shows e tours em conjunto ou por composições e músicas. Seu primeiro álbum (Alas I Cannot Swim foi produzido por Charlie Fink, ex-namorado e vocalista da banda Noah and the Whale, com quem manteve um relacionamento enquanto fazia parte da banda).

O álbum foi alvo de críticas de mídias britânicas importantes, rendeu a Marling algumas premiações e sua comparação com a cantora Joni Mitchell.

Seu segundo álbum (I Speak Because I Can), produzido por Ethan Johns (que também ja trabalhou com a banda Kings of Leon), mostra mais maturidade e experiência que o antecessor, e as comparações com Joni Mitchell se tornaram mais fortes.

    I love Laura so don't hate me for saying this, but I'm getting sick of the Joni Mitchell comparisons. They're not really that similar and I find it a sort of lazy comparison. I feel I'm justified in saying this since Joni is my favourite artist of all time and I own all her work. So many people only know Blue and just think Joni's some folky. Her music isn't even folk...maybe two or three albums. The comparison doesn't really hold much water - Joni is the best female artist of all time. It's unfair to compare the two.

    I think it is very different than her previous albums, hard to say better or worse, it is just very different. It seems Laura Marling somehow grows up with every CD. First she was a teenager (1st album), then a young lady (2nd album), then a bit older (3rd album). Now she seems a bit bitter and dark. I think that's wonderful, because with her every CD she was able to surprise me. My favourites so far are "Little love caster" and "When were you happy?". Love it.

    I have nothing against Creature per say, I actually like it, but this new album reminded me of the brilliancy and vibe of her previous albums. Each song is like coming home, every single time. Pure Laura magic, can't wait for her show on tuesday!

    New album is great! Undine may become one of my favorites from her. Although I see negative comments elsewhere about her doing a fake American accent which makes no sense to me. I don't hear it.
