When I heard Devin Townsend was going to release two records in 2009; after a two year absence where he lost his skullet, disbanded his most successful project, and quit cold turkey on smoking weed, drinking booze and looking at porn; I was almost certain that at least one of them would be my favourite of this year.

And (haha, surprise!) they have taken spots 1 & 2, despite stiff competition from Mastodon and Lady of the Sunshine (and god DAMN I'm looking forward to the new Angus & Julia Stone record for next year). Two more Townsend records are slated for next year, half done and put on hold while the band tours on the first two records.

...I'd be forgiven for thinking that the upcoming record was going to be a goofy exercise in insanity, right? The next two videos are actually even weirder.

But Ki threw Townsend fans a curveball.

2009 loopt tegen haar einde. Weer een mooi jaar, in meerdere opzichten. Muzikaal gezien heeft het toch weer het jaar ervoor weten te toppen.
Gemiddeld ongeveer 4 concerten per maand (dus 1 per week!), al is dit wellicht geen hele eerlijke berekening dankzij het aantal optredens van Lowlands, Fortarock, Bevrijdingsfestival en Le Guess Who? .

Allereerst de top albums van 2009. Hierbij was de voorwaarde dat ik iedere cd minimaal 3 keer geluisterd zou moeten hebben (more or less), om een goed oordeel te kunnen vellen. We beginnen met nummer 60 (dramatisch) tot 41 (redelijk).

De beoordeling is als volgt:
***** = Essentieel in iedere (digitale) platencollectie
****+ = Geniaal / briljant
**** = Solide topproduct
***+ = Prima vermaak
*** = Als je nog vrije tijd over hebt
**+ = Alleen voor de diehard
** = Kan (zoveel) beter
*+ = Hier hebben mensen moeite voor gedaan. Zonde.
* = Even kut als het gehele oeuvre van Kane,Nickelback en Tokio Hotel

Yo peeps, for all those who have an affection for Angus and Julia Stone, I'd suggest having a look at Lady of the Sunshine (Angus' solo project)- it's really good and a nice change from the usual. peace
