For many involved in the hip hop scene, Kero One is no mystery. Completing a nationwide Japan tour in 2004 hosted by Jazzy Sport (known for breaking acts like Sa-Ra Creative Partners and Count Bass D), receiving spins by DJ’s such as Questlove of the Roots, Dj Jazzy Jeff , Quantic, Giles Peterson, DJ Mitsu The Beats, and working with artists such as Grand Puba, Aloe Blacc, Ugly Duckling, and the Sound Providers, Kero One is steadily creating a buzz amongst hip hop and music lovers alike.
‘Windmills of The Soul’ is Kero One’s long anticipated debut LP, running 13 tracks strong with no fluff. Within a couple months of release, “Windmills of the Soul” has reached #2 of 200 on the underground hip hop HMV and Tower Records charts internationaly, held the title in the top 10 downloaded albums on ITUNES for 2 months, and already called a underground “hiphop classic”. With the ‘Windmills LP’, one can expect more timeless jazz meets hip hop energy that many have come to enjoy from Kero One, who handles his own production on 11 of the 13 tracks with the remaining two by long time friend DJ King Most.
Going further than just reconstructing samples, Kero One also plays a variety of instruments on the album (moog synths, fender Rhodes, bass etc.) and brings in live session players paired with vocalists in attempt to fully blend the organic feel of live musicianship with the rawness of sample based hip hop.
