Lau, the Lemon Tree, 19th September 2008 (support from Kat Flint)
Set 20 2008, 9h08 por unevendays
Fri 19 Sep – Lau
Lau were a band that I had heard about, but hadn't actually heard. They won the Best Group at the BBC Folk Awards this year, and they're supposed to be a top notch live band. So when I noticed they were playing the Lemon Tree, I thought, why not? It'd be a chance to go back to the newly re-opened Lemon Tree (hurrah!) and I should get a good gig out of it.
Support was from Kat Flint, an ex-Aberdonian who now lives in London. This was apparently her very first gig in her home city. I was very impressed with her, I tend to find supports generally dull and uninteresting, but she was excellent. Unlike most singer-songwriters she is a good guitar player too and has a very strong voice. Her songs had a lot of energy. I was so impressed I parted with the sum of £10 for a CD.

After a half hour break, Lau came on. Comprising of Kris Drever (acoustic guitar and vocals)… -
My June Dandelion show - Featured festival: 2000 Trees
Jun 1 2008, 17h06 por Unwashed
Featured festival – 2000 Trees
The first festival I’m featuring in my Dandelion Radio show this year is 2000 Trees, which takes place on 11 and 12 July near Cheltenham. You can find more about the festival here and here.
I was looking for an untried festival to visit this year, and came across 2000 Trees mainly by virtue of discovering that The Anomalies are playing (second day). I first played a track by The Anomalies on my February show, and should have been going to see them in Liverpool when late circumstances intervened and I couldn’t go. So I looked at the rest of the line-up, liked what I saw, got tickets and decided to do a bit of a feature on my June show.
Along with The Anomalies, I’m also featuring tracks from the great Art Brut, These New Puritans, Kat Flint and Peanut Albinos, who I’m also looking forward to seeing at the festival. There’s loads of other great stuff on too, such as Future of the Left, Moles and Skylarks and Reuben.

I went to London today to be in the video for Kat Flint's single 'Go Faster Stripes', which is out on the 17th of this month, and you should all definitely buy the download, even if you haven't heard of her.
Kat is really the most lovely, genuine person. I had such a great time. Fingers crossed that her single will do well! -
can you keep a secret?

I haven't written here in ages, mainly because I have plenty of journals here and this doesn't quite have the appeal. But I'm still around and listening to music, obviously. I'm not going to any concerts in the near future, sadly -- I wanted to go to one of Kat Flint's gigs, but they're all too far away at the moment. :(
Speaking of concerts, though, I'm in one. xD Next Thursday and Friday; a cabaret. I'm singing Dar Williams'
Empire and Sarah McLachlan's
Angel. The choir I'm in are singing Tears in Heaven, My Heart Will Go On and Can You Feel The Love Tonight? It's going to be great. :D
...For some reason I'm listening to Utada Hikaru (Utada Hikaru) right now. Yay for cheerful Japanese pop! :D -

February 17th Thåström [10/10]
Best: bara om min älskade väntar, Karenina, Ingen neråt sång, Alla Vill Till Himlen.
February 26th Depeche Mode [8/10]
Man, does Depeche know how to put up a show or what!? Great consert.
Best:
A Question of Time, Personal Jesus
February 26th The Bravery [6/10]
Supported Depeche Mode. Did a pretty good job.
Best:
An Honest Mistake
April 1st Morrissey [7/10]
Now I've done it! I have seen the man, the myth the legend - live! The end of the consert was a big dissapointment. The gig was only 75 min long and only one(!) extra song which brings down the verdict with one point.
Best: Girlfriend in a coma,
Irish Blood, English Heart
April 29th Hell On Wheels [8/10]
Short but fantastic!
Best: it's wrong beeing a boy
7th of July - Peace & Love Festival

Silver Jews [6/10]
Pleasant, but not fantastic.
Elias & The Wizzkids [9/10]
Wow! Give this band a record deal asap!
Ed Harcourt [4/10]

Kat Flint > Headrush
Ago 19 2006, 21h20 por silentphayze
we're ready for you now
we're ready for you now
sweet hallelujah, sang the choir
we're ready
stand up and take a bow
stand up and be counted
for your sins and failed love affairs
like anyone cares
well you can keep the past
I give my history
it doesn't mean that much to me
if you'll only stop to shake my hand
and, I preach my gospel like a drunk evangelist
but I would recommend this
this is, this is, this is
this is
oh, a poor man's replacement for love
a cheap imitation for human touch
how's it feel to be a lonely girl's headrush?
we're only underwhelmed
distinctly underdressed
I would have worn a shorter skirt
if I had the legs, I guess
if you'll forgive me that
I'll do the best i can
who knows, maybe one day
I might learn how to play like a man
but it's still
a poor man's replacement for love
a cheap imitaion for human touch
how's it feel to be a lonely girl's headrush?
oh, how's it feel to be a lonely girl's headrush?
oh, oh no, oh no, oh no, oh no

Silver Jews [6/10]
Pleasant, but not fantastic.
Elias & The Wizzkids [9/10]
Wow! Give this band a record deal asap!
Ed Harcourt [4/10]
Hmm... nah, neh... why Ed, why!?
Robyn Hitchcock & The Minus 3 [5/10]
Nothing spectacular about it... surf rockish stuff.
Johnossi [9/10]
Delivered their stuff with A+ grades as always! Don't miss Johnossi live if you have the opportunity.
The New York Dolls [7/10]
Old guys... but hey, they still know how to deliver.
Patti Smith [10/10]
Wow! This is by far one of the best conserts I've seen! Patti has more rock in her than most bands at the festival has together. People have the power! I was stunned afterwards. It was nice to se Peter Buck from R.E.M. enter the stage to play the last 2-3 songs with Patti...
Gloria, the last song she played was fantastic+++.
The Essex Green [8/10]
Never heard them before, but they one now of my favourite bands.
