You're using iTunes and the iTunes shop? You like alternative music?
Build yourself a guilt free gratis library of alternative music by subscribing the free podcasts of KCRW and KEXP:

    One new tune every day:
    KCRW's Today's Top Tune
    KEXP Song of the Day
One song will be submitted on (week)daily basis and keeps you updated with samples of new artists and album releases.

    Live shows:
    KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic
NPR: Live Concerts from All Songs Considered Podcast
Listen to live performances of selected artists.
BTW I use the Windows based freeware tool mp3DirectCut to extract my favorite songs from the podcasts of the live shows. ;)

Voltando das montanhas depois de conhecer pessoas aletórias, conversar sobre as bolhas sociais, escutar Ramones no banco da praça, vim escutando esta nova banda numa apresentação ao vivo pela KEXP.

    The Trouble with River Cities

    float like a sparrow
    t-top camaro
is the wind done blowin you down?
    do you need oxygen
do you need out of your room
are we waiting on a hot air balloon?

    at times when you tremble
    you seem to resemble
a window that stayed open too long
and your old crown of thorns
    he knocks at your door
and you trade places with the shadows on the floor

there will be hells to pay
for all we forgot to say or criss-crossed up some mixed up love
    and yeah there’s an undertow
    but it ain’t got me

    it comes through the ceiling
it is listening through the wall
and it’s waiting in the empty hall.
    well reach for your branch
in your avalanche cause it might be your walking stick home

    chorus

    i know i know
it’s the trouble with river cities
    i know i know…
that’s the trouble with river cities

I love KEXP. I have been listening to it everyday at work instead of listening to a single album on repeat (the CD player at work remains broken - if I want to change CDs I have to reboot my computer).

These are the bands I have recently been paying more attention to on kexp and want to check out:

    The Hold Steady
    Art Brut
    Ugly Duckling
    Tapes 'n Tapes***

I think Wolfmother is playing right now. They don't suck that much.
  • why i love the magnetic fields

i had been meaning to listen to more of The Magnetic Fields for awhile, ever since i learned that Lemony Snicket, or david handler, played accordian for them. i'd been hearing tracks from them on KEXP, so i recently obtained the album 69 love songs. i love it, mainly because it alternates between being very poignant, thoughtful, and sad, and being hilarious.

also, they are apparently releasing songs to accompany mr. snicket's amazing series of books, which will be released on friday october 13 in tandem with the last book in the series. it is excited to know that my two great loves, childrens lit and indie rock, are being combined.
