In eager anticipation of my 75.000th track, I just had to look back on my time here on last.fm... I never thought I would stay here for almost three years, nor did I ever expect to find such great music and friends (you know who you are).

K's Choice

Man wohnt sehr beschaulich rund um Weert, in der Region zwischen Roermond und Eindhoven. Und wenn man nicht aufpasst, ist man schneller in Belgien als man gedacht hat. Die Grenze ist hier nicht existent, es ist ein schöner fließender Übergang zwischen den Niederlanden und Belgien. Sehr europäisch! Oder wie Tom von den Wind Whistles neulich sagte, als wir ihn auf die bisherigen und zukünftigen Tourstationen ansprachen. „We were in Belgium or the Netherlands, äh, i don’t know, well, it’s all the same.“ Nun, im Limburger Land trifft dies sicherlich zu.
K’s Choice, die belgische Indie-Pop-Rock Band der 90er, gab sich nach sechsjähriger Pause die Ehre.
K’s Choice? Ja, kennt garantiert jeder, wer Mitte der 90er in der Post-Grunge-Alternative Disco unterwegs war. „Not an addict“ war seinerzeit im DJ Pflichtprogramm und K’s Choice Masterpiece. Danach kam mit „Cocoon Crash“ ein wunderbares Album und die großen Festivalbühnen. K’s Choice wurden wer und entschieden 2003, eine Pause auf unbestimmte Zeit einzulegen. Mitte des Jahres machte die Botschaft die Runde, die Band um die Geschwister Sarah und Gert Bettens spielte erstmals seit 2003 wieder zusammen beim Dranouter Folkfestival. Kurze Zeit später wurde für einen Tag vorher ein Warm-up oder wie es in Hamont genannt wurde ein try-out Gig angesetzt.
Warum gerade das kleine 15000 Einwohner Örtchen knapp hinter der niederländischen Grenze Austragungsort der Veranstaltung wurde, weiß ich nicht. Der Vorteil für mich lag aber auf der Hand. Kurz hinter Roermond gelegen war der belgische Ort für mich in bequemer Autofahrdistanz zu erreichen. Von Köln aus in guten 70 Minuten, uns so sprach nichts dagegen, meine zweit liebste belgische Band in diesem kleinen exklusiven Rahmen zu besuchen.
Und exklusiv war es. Das de Posthoorn stellte sich als mittelgroße Aula heraus.
