Что будет если взять трек Dead Disco Dancer от O Children и убрать из названия "dead"? Правильно, получится Hatcham Social. Лёгкий пост-панк ревайвл, упакованный в пакет с нью-вейвом 80х, сдобренный более-менее приятным на слух и вкус вокалом и адаптированнный для закрытых помещений, содержащих в себе сотню человеческих тел, прыгающих, веселящихся и хлопающих в ладоши.

Группа из Нью Кросса, что в Восточном Лондоне, образовалась в 2006 году. Участники группы встретились на вечеринке 60х в одном из клубов. "Лучше места было и не придумать" - рассказывает бассист группы Дейв Джавю, который повстречал двух братьев - Тоби Джозефа и Финна Кидда (последний известен тем, что успел поиграть в Klaxons и The Chavs). Позже, с 2009 года, к ним присоединился Джэроми Ватсон.
"Слово Hatcham пришло к нам из англосаксонского языка и означает "лесная прогалина, поляна". Нам понравилась такая задумка" - говорит Тоби.
Помимо музыки парни в свободное время играют в футбол, Финн рисует комиксы и елает всевозможные иллюстрации. Дейв пишет незанятные стихи и лиммерики, Тоби читает произведения Артура Конона Дойля и занимается графическим дизайном.

Музканты, вдохновлённые звучанием Orange Juice, Josef K, The Velvet Underground и The Fall, создают музыку, пропитанную мощной энергетикой и зажатую в границы трёх-минутных комнат, которые наполнены вполне жизненоважными проблемами.
Все несчастья, переживания, удачи, восторги и энергия каждого трека опрокидываются со всех сторон на слушателя и накатывают воспоминаниями, состоящими из атмосферы Orange Juice и западающих в память заурядных ритмов ранних U2.

Вокалист группы Тоби обладает необычным музкальным тембром голоса, который придаёт их музыке невероятно мягкий и в тоже время прыгающий, поднимающий настроение звук.
Мчащиеся аккорды I Cannot Cure My Pure Evil с царапающей настойчивостью(словно гитарист взял в руки не гитару, а кусок мела и начал им скрипеть по доске) сталкиваются друг с другом. Музыкальную тонкость и изящество парни решили заполнить буквальной злорадной силой, как будто перед нами несящаяся к финишу кабина "американских гонок".
На пластинке так же присутствует результат, на первый взгляд, нелепой идеи со всей театральной серьёзностью прочитать не менее безумное стихотворение "Jabberwocky" Льюиса Кэррола из "Алисы в Зазеркалье". Солист накладывает свои слова на широкошагающие барабаны и звуки гитары, которые прекрасно дополняют атмосферу одновременно превосходства и опасности.

Продюсированием дебютного полноценного альбома группы занимались Тим Бёрджес из The Charlatans и Джим Спэнсер. Запись производилась в августе 2008 года в студии Big Mushroom , которая располагается на севере Англии.

Пластинка вышла 16 марта на лейбле Fierce Panda.

ВЫВОД: Несмотря на все плюсы, от альбома всё же отдаёт инди-повседневностью со всеми отсюда вытекающими проблемами. Пластинка получилась немного однообразной, но всё же ей стоит уделить внимание. Тем более, если для вас Orange Juice не просто освежающий напиток.
