His closing show (as leader of the "Bladerunner" trio with Bill Laswell and Dave Lombardo) at the San Sebastián Jazzaldia festival was a blast! Received a standing ovation from those who managed to persevere (and must have been quite a culture shock for the many who walked out within the first half of the performance...). I still have my reservations about Zorn but that experience has definitely warmed me to him.

I've always felt that some of Zorn's stuff was very Lynchian in atmosphere, so much so that I have included a couple of Zorn tracks as part of my playlist based on the work of David Lynch.

At The Gates of Paradise is nice, yeah. Didn't like it too much for the first listen but now I find it a pretty amazing album. Bright and sweet one.

Sometimes I wish Tzadik would make a massive boxset with 20+ albums from Zorn. Maybe as a retrospective or something

Nothing beats a good physical copy, but I have no place to store EVERY SINGLE release in my house.

Petition for Tzadik to setup an online shop, all Zorn releases, WAV/FLAC with chippy's album art included in the download.

The Concealed, Alhambra Love Songs, The Circle Maker, Taboo & Exile, Dreamachines and The Dreamers are all really great. I like all the records he's done with the Gnostic Trio, but they are all extremely similar - Transmigration Of The Magus is pretty damn good though. Interzone is well worth a listen, as is a lot of the Book Of Angels stuff (the Eyvind Kang one is absolutely stunning). There's a load of good stuff on the Filmworks albums, but they're kind of a mixed bag and a bit of an oddity in his discography (the first half of VIII is brilliant). My favourite Moonchild is probably the Crucible. I'm not too keen on his classical works, but The String Quartets album is worth it for Kol Nidre and Cat O' Nine Tails. For Your Eyes Only is great, too. I think you can usually get a good idea of whether you're gonna like a Zorn record or not by who's playing on it and what the blurb on Tzadik says...
