dezembro 2011John Coltrane has an amazing body of work. I started listening to him with blue train, giant steps and a love supreme. and then I moved on to the more free jazzy stuff. He inspired a whole generation of musicians, who regarded him as an example. Pharoah Sanders said he learned to play jazz with Coltrane. And after his period with John, his sound became amazing, I guess he took over the immersive passion that Coltrane imbues in his music.

novembro 2011I can't believe something as intense as Interstellar Space was recorded in 67! It's mindblowing now, I could only imagine hearing it 3 years before Black Sabbath's self titled record came out. I mean, it was a different world back then. I know it's not the first free jazz thing the world had heard, but it's got a punky sort of intensity. About as far from elevator jazz as it gets.
