    _________________________________________________________________________________
    ctrl+c, ctrl+v, from their last.fm wiki:

campbell trio, as their name suggests, is a three piece diy hardcore punk band from porto alegre, rs - extreme south of brazil - formed by former members of My Soundtracked Life, Emer and alba numbers in april 2008.

their name is a tribute to the brilliant bruce campbell and to old jazz groups often called by the leader's name followed by the number of musicians (John Coltrane Quartet, Miles Davis Quintet, etc).

the trio recorded drums for twelve songs in late 2008 and are currently recording guitars, bass and vocals at home. their first output is intended to be a 5 song cd-r ep which will be available very soon. for now you can listen to two songs on their myspace (http://www.myspace.com/campbellthree) or here at last.fm.

and here's an old teaser: http://youtube.com/watch?v=6hojKyHbXWA&fmt=18

  • Suggest Dinner Music for My Wedding!

    Mar 10 2008, 3h05 por cooperaa

Hey there, thanks for stopping by!

As you can tell from the title, I'm looking for some suggestions for music to play during the cocktail hour and dinner of my wedding. I've listed some of the albums I thought might be good but I'm definitely no expert (especially when it comes to jazz). I'm not looking for any style in particular, just something kind of mellow, relaxing, but sort of "fancy" if you know what I'm trying to get at.

Here's what I've got picked out:
    John Coltrane Quartet - Ballads
Duke Ellington & John Coltrane - Duke Ellington & John Cltrane
Diana Krall - The Look of Love
Frank Sinatra - selections from The Very Best of Frank Sinatra
Herbie Hancock - selections from Blow Up
Quincy Jones - Sounds good, but I'm not familiar with any specific albums that would be good.
Miles Davis - I'm not a huge trumpet fan, but apparently his Kind of Blue album is supposed to be good?
Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus was also recommended.
The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out I assume will also be good to use? Or would it be better to use some recordings from their At Carnegie Hall album be better?
Art Tatum - Looking for some song suggestions here, too.
Billie Holiday - Are her songs too sad for dinner music?
Charles Mingus - Don't really know much here, so I'll probably just go with what's popular on his page.

I'm looking forward to hearing your suggestions!!

  • Miles Davis, his sidemen and their music

    Mai 30 2007, 10h30 por Nectar_Card

Miles Davis "(26 May 1926 – 28 September 1991) was one of the most influential musicians of the latter half of the 20th century. A trumpeter, bandleader and composer, Davis was at the forefront of almost every major development in jazz from World War II to the 1990s. He played on various early bebop records and recorded one of the first cool jazz records. He was partially responsible for the development of modal jazz, and jazz fusion arose from his work with other musicians in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Free jazz was the only post-war jazz style not significantly influenced by Davis, although some musicians from his bands later pursued this style. Davis had a talent for drawing together talented musicians in small groups and allowing them space to develop. Many of the major figures in post-war jazz played in one of Davis's groups at some point in their career.” (from Wikipedia)

This journal is a collection of the various sidemen that played with Miles during his career and of the groups they went on to develop after playing with Miles. I have tried to include all his major sidemen and the groups they started. (So this excludes Charlie Parker who Miles played with, but was not Mile’s sideman, it includes groups such as John McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra but not the Rolling Stones, who Darryl Jones plays for)

I have also created a tag radio combining all the artists in this journal.
