Founded by my attempt to get my driving licence, and the
Top Gear: The Ultimate Driving Experience (disc 1) &
Top Gear: The Ultimate Driving Experience (disc 2) compilation I found I have gotten the inspiration to make my own driving songs compilation.
A few "rules".
The song must be:
- uptempo
- catchy
- have a tendency to stuck inside your head.
- must be a 'aged / matured' so none of the quickly come quickly gone today chart songs.
Here is what I have come up so far. (it is a "work in progress" so additions are greatly apreciated).
Spider Murphy Gang
Skandal im Sperrbezirk
Very kewl german track, got the idea of this 'compilation' while listening to this song
Letters to Cleo
I Want You to Want Me
Was going for the
Cheap Trick version first, but this one sounds better.
Dick Dale and His Del-Tones
Misirlou
Catches the spirit very well. Ofcourse it will be the version with the 'pulp fiction' intro. Also like the way this song is used in the opening credits of 'taxi'
Genesis
Jesus He Knows Me
Just a good uptempto track that encourages to 'sing along'
The Breeders
Cannonball
This would be the opening song of the compilation, because of the killer intro and buildup to the main riff.
Heart
Barracuda
Again killer riff.
AC/DC
Whole Lotta Rosie (live)
The live version with the public shouting 'rosie' and the riff. Woa.
Thunderstruck is still a candidate as well, but since only one song can go on the compilation I have to go for rosie.
Tracey Ullman
Breakaway
First non rock song to make it on the list. Is just so fast and happy. Bursting with energy.
Weezer
Buddy Holly
Kewl track with a great clip and kewl sound.
Golden Earring
Radar Love
A classic song, got to be on the list.
Sid Vicious
My Way
Cut the first minute-and-a-half and begin with the punk. Great sing-a-long
Status Quo
Whatever You Want
Joey Ramone
What a Wonderful World
Very energetic rock cover of a great song.
Nena
Nur geträumt
R.E.M.
It's the End of the World as We Know It
And I feel fine... sing along with a good guitar riff. Fits the profile like a glove.
Flogging Molly
Drunken Lullabies
Irish influenced pop-rock-punk is great!
Dropkick Murphys
Rocky Road to Dublin
I was first going for 'Fiels of Athenry' or the "spicy mchaggis jig' but both were to slow. This isn't
Not so certain candidates
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
I Love Rock and Roll
Good song, but I am afraid it is too slow to make it onto the compilation.
Derek and The Dominos
Layla
Great track, it has a very very very great guitar riff. But again too slow, really.
