Totentanz – Live i jakieś tam inne sprawy

Design płyt to rozsądny, elegancki minimalizm.

Przejdźmy jednak do konkretów.

Klawisze, smyczki, wszystko to pięknie wzbogaca i nadaje genialny klimat utworowi.
TUTAJ możecie sobie go posłuchać i pooglądać.

A gówno pomogła, panie techniku.

PS6.

November 6 2009.

    Dez 4 2009, 22h54 por turbomatic

Miss Li with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Konserthuset, Göteborg. November 6 2009.

When I first saw the ad for this show I was confused by the pairing of Miss Li and Lasse Berghagen (to be honest I'm still a bit confused). But I just couldn't miss the opportunity to see Miss Li with a full Symphony Orchestra so I bought tickets for me and my mom...

Conductor Anders Berglund, Linda and Lars.

Lasse started with a few songs, it's not my music so I won't comment on it, atleast it was interesting to watch and listen to the symphony orchestra. Then Miss Li came out wearing the same cute red dress she wore when I saw her at Peace & Love 2008. Her first song was a fleshed out version of TocarDancing The Whole Way Home. It was followed by TocarI'm sorry, he's mine, not my favorite song of hers but the orchestra added a new dimension to it and made it interesting again.

Then came the first big surprise of the show, Miss Li doing a wonderful cover of Ding dong, a song Lasse sang in the Eurovision Song Contest 1973. A fun song that was perfect for her, sounded like a song she could have written for her first album but sung in swedish. It was also the song that got the greatest response from the audience. It would have been even better if Linda would have sung the "Ram-taram-ta-dulje-dum-doo" herself though. Please record it and release it as a b-side or something... :)

The next surprise was the song I was hoping for the most... the first ever live performance of TocarThe Boy In The Fancy Suit. One of the best songs from Dancing The Whole Way Home. I guess the reason it hasn't been played earlier is because of all the strings. So this was the perfect show to play it and it sounded wonderful.

The last of her own songs was TocarOh Boy that got a great reworking with the orchestra, a fun version with tuba and stuff. Usually that song ends in total chaos but it looked like Linda was fighting to hold back to end it in the very controlled chaos of a full symphony orchestra... :) Then they did another Berghagen song, Min Pappas Stora Skor as a duet.

Me and my mom had a fun night out and the few Miss Li songs made it worth the ticket and left me wanting more. I would love to see her do a whole show like this on her own with more of her slower songs that's often left out of the ordinary shows and mixing it up with covers of old jazz, blues, country, 60's soul and more 60's schlager. Imagine her singing April Stevens' TocarI Want A Lip or Love Kitten, something by Peggy Lee or Julie London... or Lill-Babs' En tuff brud i lyxförpackning, Towa Carson's Alla har glömt or Loretta Lynn's TocarFist City, that one would fit her perfectly! Or maybe something by Tom Waits, Janis Joplin or I Want You by Bob Dylan... Neil Young's Helpless... I could go on. I think she could pull off any of those and make it work.

More pics and a short video documentary!

  • Miss Li, Stora Torget, Borås. August 27 2009.

    Nov 23 2009, 23h10 por turbomatic

Miss Li, Stora Torget, Borås. August 27 2009.

Damn... I forgot to bring my camera so these pics are borrowed from somewhere. This was the 9th time I had the opportunity to see Miss Li, it was also the first time she wore a dress I had seen at a show before...
I didn't have that big expectations of this concert, I was expecting something like the other free outdoors concerts I've seen with her that's been good but not great. Boy was I wrong?!

It was pretty much the same setlist as most shows this tour but you could tell from the first song, the Tom Waits influenced TocarStupid Girl that the whole band was on fire tonight. They have become super tight from all the touring and a lot of songs has found an all new groove and some songs turns into extended jams. Linda is belting like girlier version of Janis Joplin with a lot of soul and power. I hope her next album will have this loose band feel... Even TocarI Heard Of A Girl have started to sound good live.

TocarStupid Girl, TocarPolythene Queen, TocarDirty Old Man, TocarHard loved man, TocarBackstabber lady all sounded great as usual but the ones that impressed the most was TocarLet her go that sounded more alive than ever, TocarStuck In The Sand that has turned into a groovy 60's soul song and TocarOh Boy, it's far from my favorite song of hers but new stuff happens in this song every time I've seen them playing but this was the longest and weirdest version of it I've heard, probably atleast 8+ minutes... It started very slow with just Linda on her piano, then into the normal arrangement before it turned in to a jazz/blues jam. The part I liked the most was when Claes played a bassline similar to Peggy Lee's Fever and Linda started singing it like a slow sexy 40's jazz ballad, I would have loved to hear the whole song like that... and the song ended in a worse chaos than usual. One of the best Miss Li shows I've seen.

But I wish they would mix up the setlist more though. They have a lot of songs to choose from and it would be very cool to hear some covers since Linda has a great taste in music. The acoustic version of TocarI Heard Of A Girl would be awesome for a change and they need to bring back TocarIs This The End soon. It's a lovely song.

  • My Hummingbird 100 Female Songs of all-time which I voted for + some more

    Nov 17 2009, 17h55 por BlackCoffeeDuck

This from the HOTTEST FEMALE SONGS!!! Kind-off like Triple J's Hottest 100 of All-time early in the year but only female artists because there was very few women in Triple J's countdown. It's run by a new beer called Hummingbird and some pay TV channel (I don't know which one because I don't watch it). It's a cool idea and I found it so hard to cut it down just to ten in the end so I just made my own 100 tracks from my favourite female artists.

    My Top Ten Votes
    1. Portishead - Glory Box
    2. Kate Bush - TocarCloudbusting
    3. Sarah Blasko - Tocar{Explain}
    4. Nina Simone - TocarSinnerman
    5. Fiona Apple - TocarFast as You Can
    6. Björk - TocarArmy Of Me
    7. Cat Power - Cross Bones Style
    8. Beth Orton - TocarStolen Car
    9. PJ Harvey - TocarThis Is Love
    10. Magic Dirt - Dirty Jeans

This was very, very, very, very hard (have I made it clear how hard this was?) But I picked songs which I could listen to on repeat which I have done in the past (not here on last.fm yet). Most tracks are from the 90's too (I grew-up in that decade, if you haven't all ready guessed). It seems like last.fm's journals are made up of long lists of songs so I've joined in again with my very, very long short list of songs that didn't make it into the top ten. These songs can be any thing that I love really It's from A to Z (well it's Y really, then V). It's selected from the list of tracks which are on their website but I've added a few of my own ones at the end. If you have no idea what I'm talking about go here and read all about it (there's only 4 days left to vote so hop too it).

Sister Rosetta Tharpe - TocarDown By The Riverside
    The Triffids - Raining Pleasure
The White Stripes - In the Cold, Cold Night
    Vashti Bunyan - TocarRainbow River

So that is it. It wasn't so hard really (but cutting it down to ten was). I've most likely missed something which I'll remember later and be kicking myself about but I'm pretty happy with this mix. It seems my favorite female singer songwriter is Beth Gibbons with my number 1 track in my top ten. Plus two more Portishead songs and one from Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man project album. If you don't know she wrote My Secret for Jane Birkin a few years ago too. That adds up to five tracks out of one hundred which is not many but more that anyone else.

Anyway what do you think??? I liked writing these journal entries but I do like reading you comments and It's also the only way I can tell if anyone has been reading or looking at them. Thanks and bye for now.

Miss Li. Debaser Medis, Stockholm. December 27, 2008.

Me and my girlfriend took a weekend trip to Stockholm for another Miss Li Concert and some christmas shopping... This was the last concert of the tour and it's my 4th concert with her this year but she still manage to surprise me every time. Just like last month in Gothenburg the band was extended with a string section from the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. I hope she will continue doing shows with them, these two shows have been so great.

The biggest surprise of the evening was Dirty mama! the b-side to the High on You single, a song that for some reason never made it to the secnd disc of the best of album. That's the last song I thought I'd ever hear live. A ferocious little blues number with Linda belting like Janis Joplin. I love it (my #1 played song on last.fm) but I never thought I'd hear it live... That song should be played more often.

Other highlights was the beautiful string arrangement of the jazzy TocarGive it to me, but I think it sounded even better in Gothenburg last month in front of a seated audience. The two new songs surprised again. I love TocarDirty Old Man and TocarIs This The End is such a beautiful song and it sounded even better this time. The new album will be out April 1... can't wait.

The two shows with the string section have been very different but really good in their own way. The Gothenburg show was for a seated audience in a concert hall, more laid back with focus on the slower songs. People were sitting and just listening. This show was more like a normal energetic Miss Li show with added strings and other surprises. Lind and the band were on fire... Can't decide which one I enjoyed the most.
Oh, almost forgot... Lars Winnerbäck showed up for their duet, Om du lämnade mig nu.

There are still songs I hope to hear live soon... First of all Not the one I need, a great kind of Janis Joplin/Etta James blues/soul song and one of her best vocals so far. Upside down, a funny circus ditty, sounds kind of like a very, very happy and naive female Tom Waits :) and Take A Shower, a great gypsy influenced song with great accordion and lots of tempo changes, Taraf de Haïdouks goes pop... to name a few...

Miss Li. Göteborgs Kulturkalas, Gothenburg, August 12 2008

Well. Miss Li along with Bruce Springsteen has pretty much been the soundtrack of my summer. I love her music, her voice, her simple piano playing and of course her dresses... The music is very simple and maybe even naive at times but what makes it interesting is all the influences from pretty much every genre over the last century, everything from jazz, blues, cabaret, gypsy music, motown, country... She even "borrowed" the title and some lyrics from Hank Williams' Why Don't You Love Me for her own song with the same name... that's cool in my book.

While the rain was pouring down Miss Li hammered through her hits with lots of energy, TocarLet her go, I'm Sorry He's Mine, Why Don't You Love Me, TocarOh Boy the great Leave My Man Alone and two of my favorites, the jazzy TocarBackstabber lady and the bluesy TocarHard loved man and a couple of more... and of course ending with a furious version of TocarMiss Li. I like the studio albums but she's even better live, it's wonderful to see her hammering away on the piano and almost falling off the chair at times. She use her voice a lot more too, screaming like Janis Joplin at times. Which is a very good thing.

I would have liked to hear more jazz/blues songs like TocarGive it to me, Don't try to fool me and Not the one I need... But she just got to play for 40 minutes so I guess there was no time to slow things down. But it was a great, fun (but too short) show that made us forget about the pouring rain for a while.
