Lovers in Japan - Coldplay

Van hun laatste album scoort Coldplay hit na hit, alle tot nu toe uitgebrachte singles hebben in de TOP3 gestaan, waarvan drie op #1. Niet vreemd dus dat hun nieuwste plaat Record of the Week is.

Coldplay meer dan jaar in TOP10
En nog meer Coldplay-nieuws, sinds deze week staan ze meer dan een jaar in de TOP10. Vorige week dus al precies een jaar, want in week 23 van 2008 steeg Violet Hill van #11 naar #9. Die plaat bleef in de TOP10 tot de week dat Viva La Vida op #2 binnenkwam, die tot week 5 van dit jaar daarin bleef staan (een deel daarvan samen met Lost!) en ondertussen ook al afgelost is door Life in Technicolor II, die nu nog steeds op #7 staat. Met Lovers In Japan in aantocht lijkt het nog niet gedaan met de overheersing van Coldplay in de TOP10.

A short commentary...

I was shocked myself to have BWO at #1, cos I thought it was between Cyndi & Agnes. Poor Cassie & Solange, their 2008 songs were loved by the internet loons but not by the general public which was a shame. I dunno why but having absolutely loved Kylie's The One when I 1st got X, I've discovered that WOW has stood the test of time more. Miley Cyrus' Start All Over was released at the end of 07 & May 08 in Australia, it was one of my most listened to songs in late 08, I loved all the songs she released last year LOL. Poor Mariah had she released Migrate, she probably would've made my top 3. Robyn is a BELATED entry - it probably would've made my top 10 in 2005. The Feeling's debut album was probably among my top 3 albums of 2006, but this follow up was disappointing, they even admitted that 4 of the songs were leftovers from the 12 Stops & Home album. I did like I Thought It Was Over but it was really just a discofied Love It When You Call. Turn It Up was a really good song but does sound like a single #3 from an album, I also liked Without You but again it was released as a single when it should've just been a #9 song on an album. I was gonna leave Lady GaGa's Just Dance & Little Boots Stuck On Repeat til next year but I thought they deserved their placings in 08's Chart as they probably will be forgotten for next years.

Wonderful - Gary Go

Na twee weken wordt Calvin Harris van de eerste plaats verstoten door Gary Go. De release van zijn album heeft hem geen windeieren gelegd, na 16 weken gaat zijn debuutsingle Wonderful alsnog naar #1, nadat hij eerder al tot #3 was gekomen. Deze route van 16 weken naar #1 is trouwens een record, dat eerder op naam stond van Keane, dat met Spiralling pas na 9 weken op #1 kwam.
Ook de tweede single van Gary gaat lekker, Open Arms stijgt 14 plaatsen naar #5.

De Record of the Week is deze week voor Just Jack, die al eerder in de TOP40 heeft gestaan met Starz in their Eyes en onlangs nog met Embers. Record of the Week is ie nog nooit geweest, maar daar komt nu met Doctor Doctor verandering in.

Derde TOP2-hit voor Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga's LoveGame stijgt deze week naar #2 en dat betekent dat haar drie eerste singles allemaal een TOP2-hit zijn geworden, waarbij Poker Face het tot #1 schopte. Daarmee doet ze het beter dan andere recente debutanten die ook met een van hun eerste singles #1 hebben gestaan zoals Duffy, Adele en Katy Perry. Daarbij wel aangetekend dat Adele met twee van haar eerste drie singles op #1 stond, alleen de tweede bleef op #3 steken.
