WHAT'S NEW IN 2009 ?
You seem to have enjoyed most of the changes we made last year and we'll keep going that way. We will keep you informed of changes and surprises along the way. We can already tell you that the festival site and camping site will see some improvements but we won't move the location of the stages.

The Belgian Air Guitar Championship final will be held at Dour this summer.
Another remedy against the credit crunch: jolliness!
Dour has always had the reputation of being an easy-going, jolly sort of festival and this year we'll present some performers that don't take themselves seriously at all.

In 2009, for the first time, Dour Festival will host the Belgian Air Guitar Championship final!
Air guitar is the technique that consists of mimicking the gestures of a guitarist but without an actual instrument. This has been done all over the world since the birth of rock'n roll but the first proper air guitar show is attributed to Joe Cocker at Woodstock Festival in 1969. He surprised his audience by demonstration live on stage his air guitar skills. Since 1996, in Oulu in Finland is held the World Air Guitar Championship

In Belgium, there's 6 qualifications rounds spread in the country between February and June. The 6 round winners will meet at the Dour Festival to claim the title of National Champion The winner will receive a proper guitar and will represent Belgium at the World Championship in Finland in August. Comment about missed names which should be in list and not deserving ones.

Raz na jakiś czas dokonuje swego rodzaju odkryć muzycznych. Nie żebym wydobywał niczym Kazik Staszewski artystów pokroju Zaciera z zupełnego podziemia, ale po prostu dostrzegam formacje w Polsce mało lub średnio popularne, grające jednak dźwięki na bardzo wysokim poziomie. Tak było z francuskim Hocus Pocus, kalifornijskim Groundation oraz szwedzkim Looptroop Rockers. Pod koniec lipca, za sprawą świetnego występu na Reggae nad Wartą poznałem Jah Division. O debiutnackim krążku rosyjskiej kapeli reggae już pisałem, teraz przyszła pora na ich najlepszą płytę.

Album "Recycled" pojawił się na sklepowych półkach w 2003 roku. Gera Morales i cała plejada muzyków-instrumentalistów upchała na nim 10 tracków. Niektóre, takie chociażby jak "Cubana" (tutaj jako "Grustnaya pesnya o Kube"), Kołysanka ("Kolybelnaya" / "Колыбельная") bądź "Luny" ("Dve luny dva Lva") są doskonale znane fanom zespołu, ponieważ pojawiały się chyba na każdym wydawnictwie Jah Division w - trzeba to przyznać - nieco zmienionych aranżacjach. O sile "Recycled" decydują jednak zupełnie nowe kawałki. Z tego grona najbardziej wybija się moim zdaniem "Chernyi oktyabr 93 goda", często nazywane przeze mnie - od słów wyśpiewywanych przez syna kubańskiego rewolucjonisty i rosyjskiej arystokratki - "Pierestrojke na Jamajke". Spore wrażenie robi jeszcze otwierająca płytę "Molitva", wyśmienite "Evreiskaya narodnaya / Kavkazskaya zastolnaya", rewelacyjne "Marihuana - eto oruzhie Dzha (pesnya Zhaka Rastamana)" oraz znakomite "Aktivnaya zhiznennaya poziciya".

Muzyka grana przez Jah Division to typowe roots reggae, z którego słynął Bob Marley ze swoim The Wailers, Black Uhuru czy Israel Vibration. Pod względem brzmienia rosyjska formacja wprawdzie zanadto się nie wybija, ale w połączeniu z niezwykłym, jedynym w swoim rodzaju śpiewem Gerberta Moralesa daje naprawdę piorunujący efekt. "Wczuwając się" w każdą nutę z "Recycled" można popaść niemal w jakiś narkotyzujący trans. Tak jak jednak wspomniałem, główna tu zasługa charyzmatycznego wokalisty, a nie samych instrumentalistów. Z powodu bariery językowej, większość tekstów zawartych na płycie do dziś pozostaje dla mnie sporą zagadką. Biorąc jednak pod uwagę pojedynczę słowa, nie powinny one za bardzo odbiegać od tego, co na codzień słyszymy z ust innych wykonawców reggae. Jah, Haile Selassie, rastaman nie kłamie i legalize marihuana - to tak w skrócie.

"Recycled" to kawał dobrego stuffu, który doceni każdy fan wywodzącej się z Jamajki muzyki. Obok Amerykanów z Groundation, Rosjanie z Jah Division stanowią dla mnie w tym momencie czołówkę światowego reggae. Może nie jestem jakiś wybitnym znawcą tego gatunku i na pewno nie znam nawet malutkiej części tego, co tworzą pozytywnie nastrojeni, kochający Jah ludzie z całego globu, lecz wątpię, aby cokolwiek potrafiło moją opinię zmienić. Chcecie poznać dobre, naprawdę dobre reggae? Sprawdźcie album "Recycled" Jah Division i wczujcie się w klimat. Polecam!

Izrael to polski zespół grający muzykę roots reggae, założony w 1982 roku przez Roberta Brylewskiego i Pawła "Kelnera" Rozwadowskiego, po zaprzestaniu działalności przez punkową Brygadę Kryzys, w której to zresztą liderował pierwszy z wymienionych artystów. Pierwszym albumem zespołu było "Biada Biada Biada". Wiele osób uważa, że właśnie ten krążek to pierwsze tego typu wydawnictwo w kraju, zaś Brylewskiego przypisuje się tytuł ojca polskiego reggae.

Niczym byłyby jednak te jakże chwalebne określenia, gdyby recenzowana płyta nie byłaby tego warta. "Biada Biada Biada" to jednak genialny materiał, zarówno jeśli rozbija się o warstwę muzyczną, jak i stronę tekstową. I znów ogromna rzesza fanów reggae uważa, iż właśnie Izrael był jedynym polskim zespołem, który osiągnął pod względem dźwiękowym perfekcję, niczym najważniejsze i najbardziej uznane zespoły rodem z Jamajki (wykonujące rzecz jasna ten typ muzyki), poczynając od Black Uhuru, idąc przez Israel Vibration, kończąc na występującym wraz z Bobem Marleyem The Wailers. I tak jest właściwie w istocie, choć trzeba zaznaczyć, że ostateczną ocenę utrudnia fakt, iż po 25 latach "Biada Biada Biada" nie brzmi za czysto, co spowodowane jest rzecz jasna upływem czasu. Co ciekawe, Izrael nawet stworzył dub-wersje do 4 swoich utworów. Robert Brylewski i spółka nagrali muzykę, która na początku lat 80.-tych była precedensem na światową skalę, ponieważ do tej pory twierdzono, że tylko czarnoskórzy artyści mogą tak rewelacyjnie "czuć" reggae.

Warstwa lirczyna również ociera się o rewelację, choć tutaj akurat typowe dla wywodzącego się z Jamajki nurtu muzycznego teksty mieszają się z różnego rodzaju kulturowymi smaczkami z naszego kraju. Dominuje śpiewanie o Babilonie, czego dowodem są takie kawałki jak "Płonie Babilon" (nawiasem mówiąc mój faworyt z opisywanego krążka), "Idą ludzie Babilonu", "Wojna w Babilonie" oraz "Strach w Babilonie". Pojawił się też jeden - nazwijmy to - antykatolicki utwór ("Kapłani szatana"). Do swoich ulubionych piosenek zaliczam jeszcze track "Rastaman nie kłamie". Z tego kawałka płynie morał taki, jakoby to wszyscy poza rastamanami łgali, co brzmi rzecz jasna nonsensownie, ale w ramach reggae jak najbardziej się mieści, a najważniejsze jest jednak to, że przytaczany utwór wprowadza po prostu w pozytywny nastrój.

"Biada Biada Biada" to bez wątpienia rewelacyjny materiał. Można się spierać, czy najlepszy w historii polskiego roots reggae. Pewne jest natomiast to, iż bezproblemowo uplasowałby się w ściśłej czołówce. Jeśli taka rekomendacja Wam nie wystarcza, to szczerze mówiąc nie wiem, co by zachęciłoby Was do zapoznania się z recenzowanym albumem. W każdym razie, polecam.
