É o terceiro disco gravado com a atual formação, precedido por Brave New World e Dance of Death. O primeiro single de A Matter of Life and Death é The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg. O disco vem em duas versões: uma simples e outra com um DVD bônus. Conta com músicas longas e pesadas, como era de esperar, tendo 3 guitarristas.

I saw Maiden live on the first half of this tour when they played the album in its full. I just wish now that I would've appreciated the album more back then. Today I love it, back then I was close-minded and only liked their 80's stuff.

This was my favorite Maiden album the moment I heard it, I dunno why, but when I first listen to it, it spoke to me x]

This is by far the most consistently great Maiden album. By far. It might not have 'the hits', but it has everything else in spades. A masterpiece, one of the best metal albums ever made.

It's not their best album, none of the songs quite reaches the heights of their finest 80s work and yet, as a whole, it's probably my favourite Maiden album.

Personal favourite tracks from album: 'Brighter Than A Thousand Suns', 'Out Of The Shadows' and 'Lord Of Light'. They have certain epic values to them

As a christian I think Dickinson's voice is a gift from God to mankind. This record is epic at maximum.

Deficient coming from a band like Maiden. Anyways, every champ has its lows.

So underrated. A true masterpiece, no fillers here. People complaining about how the songs are so long need to listen to other music besides regular rock / metal. This is basically a prog- metal album, but with the Maiden approach of course. The lyrics are rock solid and Nicko's and Bruce's performance here are among their best.
