The X Factor is a brilliant album, even by Maiden standards. People just aren't fond of progression, because it doesn't gallop like the 80s stuff or make you want to headbang. The music is deep and extremely well written. There's a few too many chorus repeats (as there is with Virtual XI and Brave New World) but it's still an excellent and constantly overlooked album which, written by any other band, would be hailed as a masterpiece. It's unfairly compared to music composed years before by a younger, less mature band. Its criticism falling on the shoulders of Blaze is equally unfair, as he's proven to be an excellent song writer and vocalist in his solo career, without Steve writing his songs (and if you don't like the X Factor, blame Steve, he's still the main song writer). Brave New World was largely hailed as a 'return to form', but other than Bruce Dickinson returning on vocals, it really isn't that musically different to the Blaze era albums at all. Fear of the dark is one of teh best albums ever. Point of fatc, if you love it as well you should also love The X Factor, it's the same style, just with Blaze. If you're still unconvinced about Blaze listen to his solo stuff, it's incredable. Good starting songs include stare at the sun and kill and destroy.

Maiden style is not for everyone. Some people don't like the lyrical side or Dickinson himself or they have a problem with the compositions. Some people just like different styles then that what Iron Maiden posseses. Nothing wrong in liking or disliking this band. I personally started to like Maiden at the end of Vocational Collage. They still have some things bad and some things good but definitely a great band all together.
