Iron & Wine é o nome artístico utilizado pelo cantor estadunidense Sam Bean. Originário do estado da Flórida, mas residente na Carolina do Sul, Bean lança o seu primeiro álbum “The Creek Drank the Cradle” pelo selo Sub Pop em 2002. Bean escreve, toca, grava e produz cada uma das músicas do álbum em seu próprio estúdio caseiro. O som do álbum, que inclui violão, banjo e outros instrumentos foi comparado com a música de Nick Drake, Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Young, Elliott Smith, John Fahey ou Ralph Stanley. Sua música é classificada como country alternativo, folk progresivo o indie folk.
Em 2003 foi lançado “The Sea & The Rhythm”, um EP que recompilava outras gravações caseiras, que iam na mesma linha do álbum de estréia. O segundo álbum de Bean, “Our Endless Numbered Days”, de 2004, foi gravado em estúdio profissional com uma melhora significativa à fidelidade do sim. O foco ainda estava no som acústico, mas com o ingresso de outros membros à banda, o som adiquiriu uma característica mais diversificada.
Em fevereiso de 2005 Bean lança um EP chamado “Woman King”, que amplia ainda mais a variabilidade de sons, incluindo agora guitarras. Cada música incle uma figura espiritual feminina com um embasamento bíblico, apesar de Bean se declarar agnóstico.
Um cover gravado por Iron & Wine da música Such Great Heights, do The Postal Service, foi incluido em um comercial de chocolates M&M’s, no filme Hora de Voltar, de 2004, e em um comercial da Ask.com em 2006. Bean gravou também a música “The Trapeze Swinger” para o filme Em Boa Companhia, de 2004.

For some reason live i hate all the songs he plays from the shepards dog, but he plays all (in my opinion) weaker tracks. Peace beneath the city should not have a little "jam session" when he could have played resurection fern and flightless bird american moth in that time. I loved the first time i saw him with just him and his guitar.and skipping jezebel for woman king? He needs to pay attention to the crowd's reactions.

saw them at Pukkelpop festival in Belgium last weekend. Even though they didn't exactly played to music I learned to love the past few years, the show was spectaculair. Sam is a musical genius, everything he does sounds so pure and great. Loved to see them from so closeby, can't wait to see them again....

I love the full band, i think they are incredible. I'm happy he is no longer just solo, i think progression is the way to go. I'm really excited to see him at Terminal 5 in NYC in a few months, even thu that is a horrible venue for him...
