    ¿Los chilenos nos acordamos del folclor sólo para las fiestas patrias? No en mi caso, por lo menos. Guardo en mi cabeza y en mi corazón un pedazo enorme de canciones con raíces indígenas y urbanas, mi principal fuente de folclor. Son fundamentales para mí las obras de Violeta, Víctor, Los Jaivas, inti illimani y tantos más que han esparcido la semillita de sonidos originales por nuestros oídos.

    Y para que nadie pierda el espíritu ganado en estos días de carnaval, les regalo (y me regalo) "mi cueca favorita", una con verdadero contenido en su letra, como no hay muchas, recogiendo el testimonio en una posta de canciones inteligentes con ritmo cuequero empezadas por maestras y maestros como Violeta Parra, Lalo Parra, Roberto Parra, Nano Núñez, Víctor Jara y Florcita Motuda, entre otros.

    La fusión con el jazz y el rock también ha sido una manera excepcional de multiplicar los destinarios de esas creaciones. El autor de "Frutillas", quizás una canción considerada menor en todo su repertorio, es un músico que llegó al planeta en alguna nave espacial para regalarnos armonía a través de las canciones, de la reflexión y de la alegría. Un brasileño-chileno... o chileno-brasileño... un hijo del sol luminoso... ¡un marciano lindo!

  • La música en mi vida

    Mis padres se conocieron con ocasión de ser partes del Coro Polifónico de la Universidad de Concepción, en la década de los 60. Por ello, en mi casa siempre se escuchó música clásica.
    Los discos de vinilo eran la fuente principal de música en la casa. Recuerdo cuando ponía la Sexta Sinfonía de Tchaikovsky, la Patética, y realmente me emocionaba. Otros compositores predilectos eran Mozart, beethoven, Chopin. Pero el que más me gustaba (probablemente porque era más fácil de seguir, con melodías más digeribles, era Piotr Ilych Tchaikowsky).
    Esta afición duró hasta 4º Medio; claro que en esta época me puse mas popular y me gustaba la música disco, para bailar, y dentro del rock, por supuesto Pink Floyd.

    Recuerdo uno de los primeros discos que compré: And Then There Were Three, de Génesis, el primer album sin Peter Gabriel, asumiendo Phil Collins como voz principal.

    Recuerdo, especialmente, este tema: TocarFollow You Follow Me

    Luego en la universidad no fui muy asiduo a discoteques, contentándome con escuchar radio; la alternativa eran los casetes, que usé en mis últimos años de U, cuando compré mi equipo Philips portátil, en Falabella, en $20.000 (curiosamente hoy valdría lo mismo uno similar).

    Por ende, mis gustos musicales se hicieron de los más masivos, aunque con preferencia música en inglés. De hecho mis radios preferidas de esa época universitaria son indicativo de ello preferidas eran Mundo Stereo, Concierto, Infinita, en menor medida Carolina.

    La música clásica pasó a un segundo plano.

    En los últimos años de universidad y mis primeros años d abogado, lo que estaba de moda era el rock argentino...así que bailamos a Soda Stereo, GIT, Virus y demases. Los Prisioneros jamas me gustaron.

    En la década de los 90 mis gustos se divesificaron un poco: música coral (especialmente el Coro Tabernáculo Mormón), apareció la Opera, jazz clásico (Duke Ellington), música folklórica rusa, música típica alemana (Peter Alexander), operetas vienesas, nueva trova cubana (Milanés, Silvio Rodríguez), música andina, particularmente el espectacular inti illimani (me cargan Illapu y Los Jaivas). En lo mas masivo, la música pop en inglés.

    Década del 2000, apareció un poco mas de rock en inglés, bossa nova, tango electronico (Bajofondo Tango Club y Gotan Project)y el hip hop. Además, a principios del 2000 descubrí la salsa, que me llevó a la pista de baile con muchos bríos.

    Avance rápido, último año he incorporado, especialmente gracias a last.fm, el trip hop (Massive Attack, Portishead, Nitin Sawney, Bjork), música fusión, jazz moderno, algo más de rock clásico, electrónica, flamenco, música árabe, asiática, blues, power metal.

    A pesar de que hay ritmos que definitivamente no me agradan, tales como la cueca, la cumbia, el regatón, el metálico pesado, creo que lo importante es que sigo estando con ganas de escuchar nuevos géneros y ampliar mis horizontes musicales.
