Duo underground de horrorcore americano original de Detroit, Michigan (EUA) formado por Violent J (Joseph Bruce) e Shaggy 2 Dope (Joseph Utsler). Originalmente Inner City Posse e rappers convencionais, o grupo diz ter sido visitado por uma entidade que os fez mudar o nome da banda para Insane Clown Posse (Grupo dos Palhaços Insanos) e mudar sua temática – eles lançariam seis CDs denominados Joker’s Cards, e depois… só Deus saberia, pois o mundo provavelmente acabaria.

O primeiro álbum Joker’s Card foi Carnival of Carnage, em 1992 – seguido por Ringmaster (94), e The Riddle Box (95), quando assinaram com a Jive Records – gigante do ramo que, como que por vergonha do grupo, decidiu nem colocar seu nome no disco. Bruce e Utsler saíram da Jive e migraram para outra gigante: a Hollywood Records, da Disney.

O quarto Joker’s Card, de nome Great Milenko contava com a participação do roqueiro Alice Cooper, mas teve três canções cortadas pela gravadora. Como se não fosse o bastante, o disco foi lançado desfalcado e retirado das lojas em apenas 6 horas – a Disney também decidiu que não queria seu nome estampado em uma banda tão controversa. Um escândalo então foi resultado disso, e a banda teve sua primeira exposição nacional (leia-se estadunidense) na mídia. A Hollywood Records pretendia enterrar os artistas, visto que eles não tinham como quebrar o contrato por serem artistas underground (em outras palavras, sem recursos financeiros tão grandes) e a gravadora se recusava a recolocar os CDs nas lojas.

    Fun Fact: Violent J found out about a role in a movie that he felt was practically made for him. The film could be compared to movies like Human Centipede and the Saw series. This being Violent J's first role in a film, he felt he wanted to take the role seriously and practice a method style of acting. He wanted to live the life of his character. At one point in the film, the character has to have their butthole sewn shut. J was reluctant at first, but he had sewn his butthole shut with his own two hands. J rehearsed for weeks and weeks. When it came time to audition, he arrived at the casting agency and to his surprise he was met with an empty room with a letter on the table. The letter read, "There is no movie. Sorry about your butthole." It was signed, 'Violent J.' To this day, Violent J's butthole is still sewn shut.

    when i was five shaggy used to visit my neighbor, Ol' Donnie and he performed for my birthday, he remixed popular country tracks and grilled salmon on stage. he also always took all of our tab without asking, but he was part of the family. then Ol' Donnie passed of an aneurysm in his urinary track. soon after Shaggy was depressed and seeked out help. As i recall i was about seven by now and he took me aside and said "Son suck your own dick" after that he jumped out my window and i never heard from him again. Poor guy

    My Uncle Albert was Violent J's handball coach in the summer of 89 and said he was the most gifted handballer he'd seen in all his years of coaching. Uncle Albert retired in 94 and promptly overdosed on a cocktail of watered down Icy Hot and estrogen pills. RIP Uncle Albert and RIP Violent J's handball career.

    A while back, I went to Barnes & Noble to an autograph session/reading that Shaggy 2 Dope was doing in support for his autobiography, 'Restless Leg Syndrome and Other Ailments That I Have: The Shaggy 2 Dope Story.' (It was a New York Times Best Seller... Look it up.) As I waited in line to meet The Shagmeister (inside joke between us. you're not allowed to call him that. only I am.), I realized that I actually brought his FIRST book with me (his first book was called 'My Uncle Has a Normal Name and I Don't Like That. What An Idiot: Shaggy 2 Dope's Recollection of a Simpler Time' for those who don't know). I WAS SO EMBARRASSED. You have no idea. I didn't know what to do. I began to run out of the store but as I dashed off, The Shagmeister grasped my shoulder and comforted me. He gave me the words of wisdom, "Don't drink drain cleaner. You'll probably die." So far, I'm not dead... all thanks to Shaggy 2 Dope.
