I love my last.fm and I think it's mainly because of the charts. I don't use many of the other features such as radio, suggestions etc. so it can't be put down to that. I occasionally check out the events page and some of the videos, and if I see something that interests me from a friend's page I'll check it out. That's another thing I enjoy, seeing what my friends listen to since we don't really TALK about music any more.

For the past few years, maybe since the end of 2006, I haven't really been actively searching for new music. I haven't asked many friends for artist suggestions like I use to or gone out of my way to read music magazines, listen out for new artists, read online music sites or checked out any artist suggestions. If a favourite or well liked musician has recently released a new album I haven't been that excited about getting it and listening to it like I use to (On the day First Impressions of Earth came out I went out to get it as soon as JB opened and spent the rest of the day listening to it). I don't collect posters (mainly because I don't have anywhere to put it, and I've grown out of it) unless their rare ones (like TK's latest one) and I don't keep articles on artists either. I actually went through my old boxes of posters/articles a couple of months ago and threw the majority out. It was an interesting experience to go through everything that I had collected over the years.

In the past 12 months my top 10 artists wereRegina Spektor, Incubus, Paramore, Trial Kennedy, Birds of Tokyo, Anberlin, Gyroscope, blink-182, Children Collide and Yellowcard. All these artists except Children Collide have made an appearance in previous years one way or another. Far was on high rotation recently because I had been going through her back catalogue and I found that it' was one of the more enjoyable albums. I think I was craving something really poppy but not shit pop. The same could be said for Brand New Eyes. I've thoroughly enjoyed both of these albums because they're so well constructed in my opinion.

Children Collide were brought to my attention through my boyfriend Bradley as he use to play them on his computer and their sound interested me. This was also the case with Sleep Parade, however I saw them live before I actually got into them way later.

I think it comes down to lack of time and laziness. Uni kept me pretty busy throughout the year, and during my breaks there was no real desire to go out of my way to get some new music. Not that I don't enjoy music anymore, just that I don't get that much excited about discovering it. I think I just wait until it falls into my lap. I still quite enjoy going to gigs though so that hasn't changed. I'm hoping to get back into it all though. The discovering music thing, not the collecting poster/article thing haha.
