Since 1997, the dank corners of the city of Oakland, California have been subject to the brutality of a group out of their minds. The guilty have died and the innocent bled under their watch. Enlivened by a need to pervert goodwill to ill-will, kindness to violence, and care to murder, these hapless individuals known collectively as Impaled have sought nothing less than the complete destruction of all that is good.

Begat by guitarist Sean McGrath, Impaled created an ethic to destroy the weak, the sick, the frail, the poseurs… essentially, anyone who was not in Impaled. Joined by drummer Raul Varela, the pair conspired with guitarist Jared Deaver (ex-Deeds of Flesh, ex-Severed Savior) and bassist Ron Dorn to record their calamitous sound on the well-received 1998 demo Septic Vomit. One Leon del Muerte was initially acquired to round out the band as a vocalist and eventually replaced Deaver on guitar. Bassist Ross Sewage was later acquired to replace Dorn, and the solidified quartet recorded the demo for which they were to become infamous, 1999’s From Here to Colostomy.

When their vile sickness reached the Old World, Impaled was contacted by Headfucker Records of Italy to put out two of their previously released songs onto a split 7” with hydro-grinders Cephalic Carnage.

@ZombiePsyche: I agree, the original 2000 album "The Dead Shall Dead Remain" has a more brutal and sicker thought then the re-recordings. Also the low growls are completely gone.

Halfway through Fæces Of Death, on my first listen of The Dead Still Dead Remain... Which I finally broke down & bought. Way too damn clean. What the hell! None of the "buzz" or "MESS" is there anymore, nothing that made the original recording sound like the dirty fæces it was. That made it why I loved it. The new recording sounds fucking GREAT, and that's awesome, but it's lacking all the PERSONALITY that I felt that it HAD. This is with bias, however, because several years after I got into Extreme Metal, bands like Impaled & Exhumed were releasing their debut albums, which I immediately fell in love with, so The Dead Shall Dead Remain is a pretty important album in the Metal aspect of my existence.

Perfect example of what do we get if we mix goregrind with melodic death. :D

Impaled did a surprisingly impressive job on the re-recording of TDSDR, unlike most bands(Exodus, anyone?) that completely fail at re-recording classic albums. Impaled accomplished doing it without totally leaving out the raw atmosphere of the original, it still has that rough feel to it while not completely polished, plus they did a great job at recording the tracks again of course. I find it has more energy, power and has more of that "crunch" due to better production and mixing, I think I prefer it over the original to be honest. Very impressive to say the least.

The only thing that comes close to deathgrind is their debut demo 'Septic Vomit', it's pretty fucking brutal, especially when compared to everything they released after but even then I wouldn't say it's full on deathgrind, it's almost got a brutal death metal tinge.

They're not even goregrind or grindcore for that matter. They're a death metal band, just because a band writes lyrics about surgeries, gore etc. doesn't mean they're a goregrind band. They're a fucking wicked band though, I'd go as far as saying their albums are better than anything Carcass has released since Necroticism. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Heartwork but it's definitely not on par with "Death After Life" and most of all "Mondo Medicale".

Not influenced by Carcass? Where do they claim that? Even the metal-archives page mentions that they're heavily Carcass-influenced

It's funny how the band says that their music isn't influenced by carcass. Yeah that's believable. This band is pretty much a clone of carcass. Still a great band though.
