I had the pleasure of attending the Iced Earth/Symphony X co-headline show in Portland, Oregon on February 16th. Though it was at the Hawthorne Theater (one of the worst Metal venues in town) I couldn't miss the opportunity to see my favorite band for the 4th time, especially with a new vocalist on the mic. This would also mark my second time seeing Symphony X live, the first being less than a year ago, and the prospect of seeing them again was also too good to pass up.
From what I heard, Iced Earth and Symphony X were taking turns headlining, and tonight was Symphony X's turn to steal the show. That meant Iced Earth went on before them and warmed up the crowd -- and it meant I was completely sore and dead-tired before Symphony X started (but more on that later). Before even IE went on though, we were treated to Warbringer, a California-based thrash band.
Warbringer wasn't a bad warm-up act, but they didn't do much to inspire me. …
