  • How varied is your musical taste?

    Dez 7 2009, 18h33 por Rissacakes

First, make a list of your top-20 artists overall. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, count up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 160 represents an extremely varied one.

  • Upon Having Reached My Third Year of Le Scrobbling

    Out 23 2009, 22h02 por zvirblis

Here I am, once again. Today my profile turns 3 years old. It's been a decently big year for listening. I reached the big 50,000 tracks played, which was exciting. I finally got my songs per day average to 50, after it hovering in the 40s for a long time. Of course, then it dropped drastically over the summer when I didn't listen to much of anything. But now I'm going big again. So, let's see where my charts are.

    They Might Be Giants 3,673
    The Beatles 3,441
    Mike Oldfield 1,843
    Gorillaz 1,772
    Fountains of Wayne 1,356
    Queen 1,206
    Dong Bang Shin Ki 1,107
    The Alan Parsons Project 1,062
    The Killers 1,003
    Michelle Branch 982
    Vanessa Carlton 883
Yoshihisa Hirano and Hideki Taniuchi 832
    Simon & Garfunkel 826
    Coldplay 782
    Paul McCartney 778
    Beck 773
    KT Tunstall 773
The Presidents of the United States of America 762
    Blur 727
    Gabriel Mann 681
    The Beach Boys 656
    Elton John 650
    Geri X 645
    "Weird Al" Yankovic 629
    Donovan 614
    Billy Joel 538
    tvxq 530
    John Williams 460
    The Rocket Summer 434
    The Offspring 433
    Daft Punk 428
    Sean Lennon 416
    The Cranberries 395
    Michael Jackson 385
    Scissor Sisters 355
    Mannheim Steamroller 349
    The Brian Setzer Orchestra 338
    Imogen Heap 320
    John Linnell 305
    Mono Puff 287
    Koji Kondo 277
    Koji Kondo, Yoshiko Kawamoto 272
    Creedence Clearwater Revival 268
    Herman's Hermits 250
    Bow Wow Wow 245
    Cirque du Soleil 242
    super smash bros. brawl 239
    The B-52's 238
    Paul McCartney & Wings 238
    O-Zone 236

So, there you have them. My charts as of today, though more music is playing on my iPod right now, which will undoubtedly cause this to be out of date by the time I publish it. So, who was big this year? Who's on the rise, who's falling, and who stayed the same?

Well, first off, TMBG asserted their place as first quite dominantly, as opposed to when they and The Beatles were neck and neck. The Beatles still got 1,000+ plays though, so they were not neglected. Gorillaz also had another solid year. Fountains of Wayne had a big year, and rose up a few spots, not a small feat for someone in the top 10 of my charts. Queen moved up as well.

The two biggest new additions are The Offspring and Daft Punk. While they were both in my charts a year ago, their presence was negligible. Now, they both have 400+ plays. Both are amazing. Daft Punk's Discovery is my album of the year, without a doubt.

PUSA also moved up a good bit, and deservedly so, as they were not receiving enough attention in the past from me. The Beach Boys and Billy Joel also made some moves. Nice

Bow Wow Wow rocketed up, since I finally listened to the music of theirs I had besides I Want Candy, and realized I liked it. Yay. Also, a welcome to the B-52's, who are fun times.

So, who is making big moves outside of my top 50? Well, Owl City will probably be there soon enough. It seems I can't get enough of it. Also, Yui is fun. Nice mellow j-pop-rock is fun. Men At Work and Colin Hay are looking at making their moves into the charts soon. Oh, also Susumu Hirasawa, with the soundtrack to Paprika, has made his presence felt. No doubt about it, some of these artists will be in my charts next year. O-Zone is on the way out, as is the SSB:Brawl soundtrack. Herman's Hermits just doesn't have what it takes to really compete with any real competition either, given the small number of their songs I have. But only time will tell.

That's it for now. My charts are pretty nice. They've settled somewhat into what they'll sort of look like for the predictable future. The top 10 won't change too much, the next 20 may shift around, but will have most of the same members. But things aren't so defined that they can't move at all, and that's why watching the charts is still fun. I'll see you in a year!

  • if crying and holding on and flying on the ground is wrong then i'm sorry to let you…

    Jul 19 2009, 14h16 por whenitthunders

    1. What's your favorite song by 15?
TocarHot Burrito #1, probably. So, so beautiful.

    2. How did you get into 20?
Well, one thing led to another, basically. I got into Poco when I was pretty much obsessed with Buffalo Springfield. I loved the sound of Richie Furay's voice, and at the same time I was going through a country-rock phase, so I was all over these guys' albums. They didn't disappoint.

    3. Who is your favorite member in 1?
Roger Waters. Obvious answer is obvious.

    4. What’s your favorite lyric bit by 29?
By Michael Nesmith & The Second National Band? It's either Wax Minute or In The Afternoon. Probably the first.

    5. Have you ever seen 22 live?
I haven't seen Roger Waters live, no, are you trying to make me cry?

    6. What's your favorite album from 10?
For purely sentimental reasons it's A Quick One. Not the best, but it was the first one I heard and the one that made me fall in love with them. Plus, it's so much fun, you can't not love it. Quadrophenia deserves at least a mention though.

    7. Do you own any merchandise from 3?
No, I don't own any Humble Pie merchandise. I do own a couple of albums though.

    8. What is a good memory you have of 7?
All of my Herman's Hermits memories are good memories. If I had to choose one to write here, I guess it'd be the time I found that greatest hits CD dirt cheap.

    9. Is there a member of the same age as you in 2?
No, all of Buffalo Springfield's members are pretty old/dead. They were around my age when they were in the band, though, does that count?

    10. When did you first get into 8?
I've always known of him (I have the Simpsons to thank for that), but I only got really into Michael Nesmith's solo career just recently.

    11. Who likes 4 along with you?
Lots of people like Donovan. Sadly, I haven't met those people in person. Oh except that guy who sells CDs, I guess. And Valeria.

    12. Which song did you first hear from 16?
Mmm, do Beatles tunes written and sung by him count? It's either While My Guitar Gently Weeps or Here Comes the Sun. If those don't count, it's probably I'd Have You Anytime.

    13. What song made you fall in love with 5?
Who doesn't fall in love with The Monkees after watching the show?

    14. Which song do you not like by 18?
Ah, someone's going to kill me for this, I just know it. I'm not really into The Beatles in general.

    15. Why do you like 14's songs?
Because not only are they fun, they're also very good. Everyone should listen to The Small Faces every once in a while, if only because Steve Marriott had one of the greatest voices I've ever heard.

    16. Where did you first hear 6?
I don't know, to be honest. Led Zeppelin is one of those bands you grow up listening to everywhere, even if you don't know it's them. Everyone knows at least Stairway to Heaven or Black Dog.

    17. How long was 19 a singer before you liked them?
Well, considering Janis Joplin died way before I was born, I'd say her whole life.

    18. Does 13 have a song that gives you a bad memory?
Not really, no. Most of Buddy Holly's songs fill me with joy rather than bad memories.

    19. When did you get into 17?
Only recently. It took me 20 years to get into Janis Joplin, for some reason. I tend to ignore female singers, to be honest.

    20. How long have you been into 9?
Michael Nesmith is featured so much on this list, I'm going to just stop answering questions about him.

    21. If 11 had a concert 300 miles away, would you drive there to see them?
Yes. If Cream had a concert 300 miles away I'd even learn how to drive.

    22. How many CDs do you own of 12?
Only 2 or 3. I'm sure I own Beggar'S Banquet and AFTERMATH, but my memory fails me after that.

    23. Does 21 have a song that makes you cry?
Nope. Wow, and I thought everyone had at least one song that reduces me to tears. Apparently the Red Hot Chili Peppers are the exception to this rule.

    24. Does 27 have a song that makes you happy?
Yes, TocarDominoes and TocarHere I Go are two of them. Most of the songs from his days with Pink Floyd make me happy too.

    25. Does 23 have a song that makes you smile?
Yes, Peter Frampton has a song that makes me smile. More than one, actually.

    26. What's the last song you've listened to from 28?
I have no idea what the last song by John Entwistle I listened to is.

    27. Is there a song by 32 that you've listened to more than 30 times?
Nope. I only got Stephen Stills's albums like 3 weeks ago and haven't had the time. If his songs with Buffalo Springfield count, then yes. I've also listened to Suite: Judy Blue Eyes more than 30 times, I guess.

    28. What is a song from 50 that you've only listened to once?
I have Peter Tork and Shoe Suede Blues, Jaco Pastorius, Sly & The Family Stone and Charlie Watts all tied for number 50. Even though last.fm says I haven't, I've heard their songs more than once, except for Sly & The Family Stone. I gave their album Whole New Thing a listen and didn't like it very much.

    29. Is there a song you are sick of hearing by 24?
Nope, David Gilmour's work is the kind of music I usually don't get sick of hearing.

    30. What song got you into 40?
Well, I'm not really into The Beach Boys, I just listen to Pet Sounds every once in a great while. As for the Faces and John Paul Jones, it wasn't a song that got me into them.

    31. What is your favorite single by 25?
Was TocarPsycho Daisies released as a single?

    32. If 49 hated you, what would you do?
    There is no 49.

    33. What would you say if 42 or one of the members from 42 asked you out?
    No 42 either :(

    34. Would you care if 41 had a boyfriend/girlfriend?
No 41... Wow, this is starting to get really boring.

    35. Who has the best voice in 46?
Seriously, stop it with the ties, last.fm!

    36. Do you think 26 is/are good looking?
I guess Chris Hillman wasn't bad looking. Otherwise no, I don't think The Byrds are good looking.

    37. How many times have you listened to your favorite song by 36?
I don't have a favorite song by Peter Tork & James Lee Stanley

    38. How many CDs do you own of 30?
2 solo and another 2 with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. John Frusciante albums are hard to find here.

    39. Is there a song from 38 that makes you mad?
No, Gram Parsons' songs don't make me mad.

    40. Which member from 31 do you want to see go solo? If 31 is only one artist, what would you do if they joined a group?
Well, 31 is Ronnie Lane, so this question is pretty pointless. He was in several bands and he went solo, so. If he joined a group now I'd be freaked out, but that's mostly because he'd be a zombie.

    41. What does your favorite song from 48 remind you of?
    48 doesn't exist.

    42. Did you hate 43 at first?
No, I never hated Rick Wright or Iron Butterfly. You can't hate people who make songs that are 20 minutes long and never get boring.

    43. Does your best friend also listen to 33?
No, my best friend doesn't listen to Crosby, Stills & Nash. She should, though.

    44. Do you think your parents would like 37?
My dad probably liked at least one Jefferson Airplane song back in the day, but my mom would probably hate them.

    45. Does 47 have a song that makes you want to dance?
The Kinks and Queen do. I've only heard one of Steve Marriott's solo albums, and the songs weren't exactly for dancing, but if we're counting The Small Faces (I hate that last.fm adds the "the" to their name) songs, then yes.

    46. Have you ever seen 34 in person?
No, I haven't seen Derek and the Dominos in person. I wasn't even alive at the time...

    47. Do you like 44's name?
    There's no 44.

    48. Is there someone in 45 that you want to go out with?
There's a two-way tie here. All of them are old, so no. If I'd been around when Roger Waters & Eric Clapton were young (except Yardbirds!Eric Clapton), then yes. The Animals not so much, they were all ugly.

    49. Do you know anyone that hates 39?
I don't know anyone that hates Les Fleurs de Lys. I don't know anyone that knows Les Fleurs de Lys.

    50. Have you ever danced to a song from 35?
Peter Tork and Shoe Suede Blues and Sly & The Family Stone, yes. Jaco Pastorius and Charlie Watts no, because how the hell does one dance to that?

  • Greatest Hits & More Tour

    Mar 1 2009, 9h50 por Rissan

    Sat 28 Feb – 10cc

10cc doing a theatre tour through the Netherlands. it sounds strange but it turned out to be a great succes. 10cc nowadays is mainly Graham Gouldman, the only founder member left of the four who started 10cc in 1972. Besides Graham Gouldman Rick Fenn and Paul Burgess are involved with the band since 1977. Mick Wilson joined in 2000 and Keith Hayman is the musical director of Cliff Richard and working with 10cc since 2006.

Still the subtitle for the tour is "Featuring Graham Gouldman and Friends". But it's nice to see such respected artists perform in a theatre creating an intimate atmosphere. Although I've never seen the legendary line-up or the two plus line-up in later years, this re-incarnation of 10cc delivers a good evening of great songs performed with a lot of fun and enthusiasm. It was just a walk along memory lane with a pack of great seventies hit singles, some sixties tracks written by Graham Gouldman for various artists during those days like The Hollies and Herman's Hermits, some nice album tracks like TocarOld Wild Men and TocarFrom Rochdale to Ocho Rios and the Graham Gouldman/Andrew Gold track Ready To Go Home from 10cc's final studio album Mirror Mirror from 1996.

It turned out to be over much sooner than expected. But what a concert it was. One of the best I have ever visited. A great performance.

    Setlist:

    TocarThe Wall Street Shuffle
TocarThe Things We Do For Love

So I decided I'd like to have one of those nifty personalized radio stations - don't ask me why, I just wanted to. You can marvel at the result here if you like ^_~ :

    Radio Chitiri

Like any half-respectable radio station, this one will be heavily under construction: I still have to experiment with the song rating features and stuff, plus, of course, new music discoveries will go straight into the artist list (I love how this is limitless, btw ^_^ ).

Anyways, those are the artists already featured on the station. Anything that is played which is not on this list will be either some new stuff I discovered and was too lazy to add here or some recommendation from Jango itself.
