    Heavy Metal Haven
    Monthly Newsletter
    May 2013

    http://i1194.photobucket.com/albums/aa380/adg211288/logo.jpg

April was a pretty good month for us. I'd like to say a word of thanks to Hugo Flores and Jessica Lehto of Factory of Dreams, for giving Heavy Metal Haven our biggest and most in depth interview we've done to date. Click their portrait below to read the interview if you have not done so already!

We've also brought you fourteen new reviewers this month, and I'm pleased to report that the album of the month for May is The Valley of Dying Stars by progressive thrash/death metal act Sedulity. This is a special album of the month in more ways than one. Firstly, The Valley of Dying Stars is a free release, and secondly because the group's frontman, Tony C, is a member of the Heavy Metal Haven forums under the name of metal_tony. Good one dude!

Here's to May being another great month!

Fri 26 Mar – MARCH MADNESS THRASHATHON

Alrighty, since I'm bored on a Saturday, here's my super duper fantastical penis touchdown review of the March Madness Thrashathon!

If you couldn't make it because you couldn't find the venue, stick a fork up your ass! Messaging DocMidnight(aka A Fucking Tyrannosaur aka vokillist of Lich King) went well, so I was able to procure an address to what looks like an abandoned warehouse, but then again, that's where all the good concerts take place, right?

Anyways, shit was awesome. After socializing with people who were wastes before Lich King, the opener even began tuning their equipment, we were treated to some fine Thrash Mayhem the best way it can be served: Sloppy and raw. Granted, the audience was a little small at that point, but grew larger later, so the "pit" wasn't much to speak of, but had there been a larger number there, the venue would be dust. Tom's comment on how they're the "Least thrashy looking band"…
  • Hatchet -- Kansas City, MO -- March 17th, 2010

    Mar 18 2010, 7h44 por mankvill

Wed 17 Mar – Hatchet, The Tards, Witchaven, Stonehaven, Vanlade

In terms of money spent to amazing music, this was far and away the best show I've ever been to.

The Scion Lab is tacked on to the back of Crossroads (outdoor venue where I've seen GWAR and Ben Folds before) and is pretty much a garage with a bar. There is no stage, there are no monitors. This place was made for shows like the one I just saw.

The first band was pretty much a local favorite. The Tards have been around for a while, and it's easy to see why they haven't faded into obscurity: they thrash. Pretty much your old school Metallica or Megadeth and the guys were spot on tonight. They blazed through three or four songs at a time, barely giving the audience a chance to rest their headbanging. They definitely set the tone for the night.

I think I have a new favorite local band. It astounds me that Vanlade isn't huge by now. They are one of the few bands that sound straight out of the 80's but are completely relevant now and make amazing metal. …

#1 Warbringer - War Without End
