Harry Partch é um compositor avant-garde, considerado por muitos como visionário e na vanguarda entre compositores de maior nome como Aaron Copland e Virgil Thomson. Com teorias musicais que não se restringem à escala temperada, Harry Partch se viu obrigado a se dedicar à carpintaria para poder construir instrumentos capazes de executar suas peças. Nascido no inicio do século XX, escreveu e publicou o livro “Genesis of Music” em 1949, obra esta que hoje é considerada da maior importância para a liturgia musical deste século. Foi somente beirando os cinqüenta anos de idade que seu nome e sua obra passou a ser devidamente respeitada.
