So, I'm bored and figure a monthly list of some amazing,
underrated artists (I'll aim for ten, but I'm not going to add or exclude anyone who deserves to be included) that just have to be experienced. These artists are from every genre. Except country or children's, and christian. Because those three genres are a scourge upon the earth.
1.
Marina & the Diamonds
A very new artist, her debut was in June this year in the UK. Her voice is amazing, her songs more addictive than crack and amazingly written. Mowgli's Road, I Am Not A Robot and Obsessions are her three best songs.
2.
Santigold
I love her music. Her music is just plain addictive and fun to listen to, very upbeat stuff with great tunes behind it.
3.
The Peculiar Pretzelmen
Dear god, this artist is amazing. These Hands Are Clean is my favorite song of theirs: it sends shivers down my back. The vocals are strange and attention grabbing, with even stranger and more attention grabbing lyrics. Weirder than Voltaire.
4.
Polly Scattergood
A very sweet, high quality voice that is always a pleasure to listen to. Beautiful lyrics and tunes, even if you're a pop fan.
5.
Unto Ashes
Holy crap are these guys underrated. Their music is a pleasure to listen to, plain and simple. No annoying, too-high pitched voices, or annoying electric guitar (and I say that as a heavy metal fan). Just calm, ethereal and beautiful.
6.
Little Boots
Just look at her. She's adorable. Almost as adorable as Polly Scattergood. Her electronic dance songs are incredibly addictive and uplifting. You can't get tired of it.
7.
Hannah Fury
Her voice and music is frighteningly beautiful, soothing, and memorable. Her artist page describes her music as sounding like “a carousel in deep, warped space or a carnival underwater — something dense and ferocious with thin, shimmery tendrils shooting out from it in all directions.” I can't possibly think of a better description.
8.
Tété
A La Faveur De L'Automne is amazing. You may not be able to understand French, but at least appreciate the amazing voice behind his music. Not the most catchy or addictive music out there but it's great nonetheless.
9.
The Bird and the Bee
I've never been to one of those beat poetry shows but I imagine this is what they sound like--especially the song Because. Catchy and fun to listen to.
10.
thecocknbullkid
Not the best artist in the world but under-appreciated nonetheless. Her music is a pleasure to hear and is something you can have in the background when you need something to keep you alert. Catchy and well-done electronic/pop music.
