When I launched solipsistic NATION I had a list of people I wanted to be guests on the show. One was Jack Dangers of Meat Beat Manifesto and another was Amon Tobin. I've slowly been making my way down the list and today I'm happy to cross Alec Empire of Digital Hardcore Recordings off that list!

One of my favorite memories of Digital Hardcore Recordings was when I was working alongside a kid who played Korn constantly. I think he was on a mission to assault my ears with what he considered the heaviest and angriest music he knew. I put up with it for a while but after a couple of days I got fed up with it and when it was my turn to play some music I dialed up some Atari Teenage Riot. I couldn't have wished fro a better reaction from him: he fell off his chair in shock. He was simultaneously stunned and laughing hysterically at the intensity of the music that was bludgeoning his ears! Ah, the simple pleasures in life.

I have to be honest, though, my initial reaction to Atari Teenage Riot was pretty much the same. Back in the 90's there was really nothing else like them out there and while I liked it I couldn't make sense of it at first. But like it I did and I started digging up everything I could find that was released on Digital Hardcore Recordings. Atari Teenage Riot will always have a special place in my heart but I also became a big fan of The Curse Of The Golden Vampire, Hanin Elias and pretty much anything Alec Empire puts out.

While most of the stuff on Digital Hardcore Recordings sounds as fresh now as it did when it was first released, time, and Alec Empire have moved on so this week's show serves as a kind of a document of the history Digital Hardcore Recordings: how the label and Atari Teenage Riot began, how people reacted to the band and the label and Alec's new label, Eat Your Heart Out.

I'd like to thank Alec for being so generous with his time. I figured I would count myself lucky if I was able to interview Alec for 15 minutes but instead Alec gave me 90 minutes and the opportunity to answer any question I asked him. Thanks, Alec!

Empire remixes controversial German punk band SLIME for film

Alec Empire did a remix of German punk classic "Bullenschweine" from legendary band Slime for upcoming film "Chaostage".

Alec:" I was really proud to do this mix because I listened to this band a lot when I was still in school. No other band from the German punk scene was more important to me. They combined simple but intelligent political lyrics with highly energetic punkrock. they weren't into the fun punk thing at all."

Alec doubled the vocals with his own , so this is the first time Alec is actually singing in German. We will post more infos about the film nearer its release.
Slime is also one of the few bands alongside Atari Teenage Riot who was indexed by the German authorities.

Hey everyone!

This time I am writing to you personally.

Many things are going on so where shoud I start?

We are on tour. Non stop. We did many European countries already and I loved your response at the shows.

Our set is very different now compared to last year or better the last years.

And the energy reminds me of some shows I have done in the Mille Plateaux era a long time ago...it’s not about the size of a "moshpit" (what a word) ,it is more about this über-cold atmosphere that everyone feels in that room each night.

Thanks so much for your support in terms of buying the album and the various singles! We are a true independent operation since we started, and you know that we can keep that integrity because you give us that respect back. Last year everybody was talking about Radiohead or NIN’s approach...well, we have been without a "boss" since 17 years. Why? Because we need that freedom to create the music we want you to hear. It’s not manufactured, no lies...

We have received an overall enthusiastic press response for the new label sound so far. There is more to come.

Which leads me to mentioning the DVD release of "Alec Empire / Atari Teenage Riot". This is finalized now and it was quite emotional to see Carl Crack in action. I am very proud of this one, because it has become a very unique release.

We will feature it with more info in the month of the release.

Nic Endo is remixing The Raveonettes song "Aly walk with me" !

And I am working on a film score for a film by Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano (Ichi The Killer, Zatoichi). More info to come.<br>But for now it’s all about the German tour which starts on the 1st of April.
