Yurtdışındaki (Yunanistan, İsrail, Ortadoğu, Balkanlar, Orta Asya, Amerika) çoğuna ulaşamadığımız Gencebay coverlarını da katarsak, Gencebay şarkıları okuyan sanatçı sayısının 300'e yakın olduğunu tahmin ediyorum. 'First, make a list of your overall top-20 artists. Then, for each of these artists, add the 8 most similar artists to your list. Delete any duplicates, add up the number of entries on your list and this will give you some idea of how eclectic your listening habits are. A score of 9 represents an extremely unvaried musical taste while a 160 represents an extremely varied one.'

    Gripin - Daha Gençsin

    hadi topla yüzünü prenses
    üzülme katla hüznünü
    kaldır çekmecene bir yerlere sakla
    daha ömrünü tüketecek
    nice yaraların olacak
    kabukları düşecek
    yeniden kanayacak
    kırmak istiyor bırak gitsin
    gitmek istiyor bırak gitsin
    bi daha gelmesin
    ister yen ister yenil
    daha gençsin öğreneceksin
    ister sev ister sevil
    daha neler göreceksin
    ister yen ister yenil
    daha gençsin öğreneceksin
    ister sev ister sevil
    daha neler göreceksin
en sevdiğin yanlızlığını al geçir sırtına
    eserse hafiften hüzün üşümezsin..
    belki elmacıkların ıslanır
    fenamı yanakların allanır
    ağla,durma ağla
    biraz ruhun cilalanır
    kırmak istiyor bırak gitsin
    gitmek istiyor bırak gitsin
    bi daha dönmesin
    ister yen ister yenil
    daha gençsin öğreneceksin
    ister sev ister sevil
    daha neler göreceksin
    ister yen ister yenil
    daha gençsin öğreneceksin

  • Turkish Rock Festival Mannheim (UPDATE: semi-official videos available)

    Jun 8 2008, 13h08 por arved

I am back from Mannheim, and my head is still overfull with all the memories. I am already starting to forget some parts :-(

Despite of a chaotic organization the event was really fantastic and i can't understand, why it was far from sold out. TurkishRock.com claims only 3000 tickets were sold.

After one and a half hour delay, the crowd was already slightly annoyed, Gökçe started. Among songs i did not know she played both songs that are available on last.fm, "Aradım seni" and "Vay be ben Neymişim".

Next was Gripin. Their highlight was of course the duet with Emre Aydın "Sensiz İstanbul'a düşmanım", who was next. He played "Git" and "Belki Bir Gün Özlersin".

After that a table with a Macbook was carried on stage and Manga, one of my favorites started. They played "Bir kadın cizeceksin". They played one song with a surprise guest, Alper Ağa of Karakan/Cartel fame (But i still don't quite get turkish HipHp).
And of course they played Dursun Zaman with Göksel.

Göksel performed "Günün Birinde", "Depresyondayım", "Karar Verdim" and "Bi' Seni konuşurum".

Next was Seksendört. They played K.G.B. but i can't remember the other songs, because i haven't listened to the album that much.

Next was Badem. I liked them live a lot better. They played "Kara değil mi?" and "Sen ağlama". And i can't remember the rest, because i was already excited waiting for "Kalpsiz", their last song and duet with Özlem Tekin. She was the only one who did not bring her own band with her, she used Badem as her background band, which was good because way too much time was already spent due to breaks. So unfortunately Özlem Tekin without keyboard cascades. But her songs work with guitar arrangements too. She played "Yar Bana Varmadı", "Aşk Herşey Affeder mi?" and my favorite "Dağları deldim". Way too early her performance was finished :-(.

Next was Yüksek Sadakat. They played and "Belki Üstümüzden" and ???

I took a food break, and after that found all the space in front of the space occupied, because next was Teoman.

I only remember Paramparça, because he performed mostly older songs. Counting the hands, cameras and mobile phones in the air, his performance was the highlight for most people in the audience.

Following the next highlight Erkin Koray.
He showed off with his German skillz by giving a little speach in German, and he played Feshupanallah, Arap Saçı, Çöpçüler, Estarabım and more songs i did not knew.

Now followed the hard part. A lot of people already started to leave, others were only waiting for Mor ve Ötesi.

Gece Yolcuları played "Değer mi?" (which i like very much) and "Hüzün".

Aslı played "Dans Etmeye ihtiyacım var", "Su gibi", "Yardımcı olmuyor" and "Kördüğüm". Unfortunately the time was way too late for ballads. A lot of people sat down or took a sleeping break.

Nev also played ballads, but his fans the most fanatic so they did not care about the time and sang every line with their hero. He sang way too many songs. But finally at around 6.00am Mor ve Ötesi entered the stage and with Harun greeting "Guten Morgen!" everyone was awake again and ready to sing "Bir derdim var".

They played "Şirket", "Küçük Sevgilim", Cambaz, Re, Sevda Ciceği and at the end "Deli"

Unfortunately my flash card (1Gig) went full, while i tried to record "dağları deldim", so only short videos.

UPDATE: http://festival.meddah.tv/ offers a preview of the offical video material. Unfortunately the sound quality is very bad. Some instruments and the crowd are missing or too quiet.

  • Guess what? 20 grand…

    Fev 13 2008, 20h19 por korkieng

Well, if it wasn’t for another milestone bla bla bla. I think the first one almost starts like that. Let me cut to the chase.. :)

I will focus more on the 2nd 10.000 rather than the whole 20.000 because I might end up write up saying almost the same things overall(one hell of a writer’s block for someone who is writing his second journal in 3 years :)).

Yeah I l know, Bon Jovi, Mr. Big, Queen, Manowar, Arctic Monkeys is still the top 5 overall. So I could write the same things again, right? In fact that’s not necessarily true. During the time, I decided to listen to some Manic Street Preachers albums just to get ready for watching them live in Rock’n Coke (which was really great by the way). The albums were not the best choices considering the setlist but still it was a wise choice. I should also mention that imho Send Away The Tigers is the best album I have listened throughout the year. So now I am a regular follower of the band. I know it was a bit late, but better late than never, eh? :)

Under the subject of good albums of the year, Yours Truly, Angry Mob and The Boy With No Name are the ones I should not also point out. Especially, Kaiser Chiefs’s sophomore effort impressed me quite :) TocarHeat Dies Down

Another sophomore effort namely Favorite Worst NigtmareFavorite Worst Nightmare was not a nightmare, but still could have been better. Still, D Is for DangerousThe Only Ones Who Know are very good songs. The thing is WPSIATWIN is so hard to follow up and let alone FWN is not bad at all.

As for the bands I ignored regularly, before I listened a lot of MuseMuse and Gripin during the second 10K, and latter is the first Turkish band in my list to be a regular. They deserve it. Why? Well, they just do :) Let’s not also forget Pinhani…

The tracks stood out were (based on statistics and my ears) There’s a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven’t Thought of It Yet,All I Have,Nixon,TocarAny Other Day,A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing,Everything, dort and some other soundtracks almost written for my movie on the almost most fun and longest summer of my life.( Are you allright, mate? :))

Yeah…Bon Jovi again managed to wrote a few tracks for me, much to my surprise(cos I always loved the music and never needed the words to fit for me. That was up to me and not to Captain Kidd and King of Swing for all those years. Thank you guys.) and thank god I’ll see them live this summer finally.(maybe twice who knows :))

Let me see if there will be a third one. I hope so.

    And the 20.000th one was…
