They’re going to be releasing a new recording of Terry Riley’s “In C” --http://www.factmag.com/2010/04/05/terry-rileys-in-c-new-recording-for-ghostly-international/

i think classical music doesn't translate well to last.fm because of the composer-performer divide as well as the length of some of the pieces. it would be nice to be able to scrobble listening time instead of play count.

Yes, even under the proper Reich tags there are a plethora of variations on several pieces, combined in a dizzying array of compilations to add to the confusion. Did I mention I live near this school? Some of my friends went/go there, though none on this recording (that I know of) ;]

JK... you have good points but I still stand by the notion of precedence to the composer. It does bother me sometimes not having distinguishably between different versions of pieces though.

Steve Reich called, he wants his scrobbles back.

And about merging, I'm a proponent of not doing that. Look at the Prince and Prince & The Revolution pages to see various reasons I've explained. Sure it makes building up one's charts more difficult, but they shouldn't be lumped together simply for numbers or streamlining purposes.

Well I flagged the picture because it was unnecessary, especially after I uploaded some more pics of the actual artists here. There are plenty of groups I would never consider merging into Steve Reich simply because they've played his music - Bang On A Can and Ensemble Modern to name a couple. They play the works of various classical and modern composers and to simply blend them in with the composers is a huge disservice to these unique, viable, and lauded groups. Sure, it streamlines things in the tagging and chart departments, but that's not desirable in many cases, and is in fact detrimental to the ability to tell discreet albums apart from one another. If this were simply tagged as Steve Reich, how would one tell the difference between this and the Nonesuch release of 18, for instance? There would no longer be a distinction. Of course yes the Album tag could include "GVSU etc" but the track names do not, and thus any tracks played would be indistinguishable in the charts..

CDs are not always tagged correctly. I have the hard copy of the CD as well. Regardless of anything, it's general procedure on last.fm to tag under the composer's name to keep things organized. Nobody should have a problem with that. Perhaps I was overzealous, trying to make the website a better place at least in the case of Steve Reich by uploading that picture to a large number of pages. But every one of them got deleted. I don't see how that's fair. That makes my time wasted. You could have just voted down on the image, you didn't have to report it, because I wasn't violating anything. All I was trying to do was take things one step further to get this merged, which really wouldn't be a bad thing. I doubt you'd complain. http://musicbrainz.org/release/48604984-c205-4245-bec5-0fa30a04a056.html

NO it shouldn't. It's tagged correctly, which is what's labeled on the CD which I have. Changing it back. Please don't be overzealous with the "keep your stats clean" image.

I wholeheartedly agree, but this should be tagged under Steve Reich.
