Sat 28 Mar – Mono, The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation. Patronaat, Haarlem.
Coach Bertels and Boerenchou went out to Swan-Corner with a clear goal: buying the finest Portuguese wines. As
miss kenichi sang from the CD player, B&B conquered the highways within the legislated speed range. After a few intersections and turnpikes, they arrived at Neves, a little supermarket with lots of Portuguese and some Brazilian goods and foods. Dried Cabot, Palm tree hearts on oil, chorizo and stuff to burn it on. Coach Bertels was here before half a year earlier, the 10 year old port he bought back then was a real success, so a few bottles were quickly put in the basket as Bertels strolled along towards the wine department. The wines here are good, tasted before at Boerenchou’s famous parties. So Bertels knew exactly which wines to grab and before anybody could interfere he had seized almost twenty bottles. Boerenchou was also raiding the wines, apart from all the other little food things he collected in a big box. All together five boxes filled with delicious stuff had to be carried to the limo and disappeared in the trunk. On the way back B&B were talking so much that they forgot to let Miss Kenichi sing again. The garage was dark and empty when two lights started to enlighten the situation, Bertels drove the limo up to the door and they started carrying boxes into the elevator. There was also a pickup to be transported up; an old fashion tool that now allows Boerenchou to listen to his LP’s.
Bertels was done helping out and drove back to his cube where he changed the limo for his steal horse and returned towards the city centre, where Boerenchou and Clara were preparing a glorious Portuguese supper. The ritually burned chorizo set the room in such a thick suffocating mist, that the gods must have been extremely happy. So was Coach Bertels who installed the pickup and started to show off his turntablism capabilities.
Oldseed,
Gotan Project and
Herman Dune were just a few of the artists that were once captured on vinyl and now singing into Boerenchou’s living room. When supper was done and some stuff cleaned the three of them went to the city to buy some DVD’s and CD’s just for fun. Coach Webber called in to find out the exact location where beer should flow in extreme measures. At the Burght everybody met and several refreshing beers made several laughs. In a procession, Coach Webber, Bertels, Boerenchou and Clara in a leading roll, went to the station to get on the next train to Haarlem. Arived there, a quick bite according schedule and on to the Patronaat. Walking all around the city, and stopping at every tree to piss, Bertels suddenly saw the venue and a huge line waiting visitors in front of it. Wow, the concert sold out and the doors opened too late. Boerenchou and the Coaches didn’t want to stand in line, so they went looking for a Polish pub that should be in the surrounding streets somewhere. But even with the available uPhone the place could not be found. The coaches settled for less in a small bar and Boerenchou found out that this place, in fact, used to be the Polish pub! Strange world, the best places disappear before they can be tested by Bertels. Somewhat later the line was almost gone, so the Coaches and Boerenchou went to the venue and entered the fully packed kleine zaal where the support act was already playing its dark atmospheric soundtrack that fitted the movie displayed on a huge screen.
The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation is the commercial branch of
The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, that was easy to spot with four apples on stage. The slightly erotic movie on the big silver screen was Succubus, a Jesus Franco production from 1969. The total package was very good, heavy dark jazz combined with this demon lady who lives on the energy of the men she kills. Real good show, should be a main act soon. Finally after a transition period that’s needed to switch bands,
Mono came to the stage. Everybody clapped as they entered and soon they were playing the first track of their new album. From that point the entire concert was one big walk in heaven, surrounded by other folks on clouds Bertels looked down on Little Miss Bass Boots realising that she looks better in the slightly thin white dress she wore during last years gig in Haarlem. These Japanese guys really rocked! Every song was perfect from start to finish and even Romec smiled at the band. Coach Bertels bought three Mono LP’s, and after a successful train ride the newest album was immediately played on Boerenchou’s pickup. The coaches stayed till four in the morning, as the wine dried up. That same day the coaches would return to C&B to watch the classic masterpiece Once upon a time in the west. What a weekend, what a gig!!
