"Honestly, when "Tales Don't Tell Themselves" I had honestly thought Funeral For A Friend were going to break through to an even larger audience with how catchy and melodic the material was" My thoughts of this are kinda the same. Man i think this album is underrated. First i was like everyone else "what is this... bit boring". No it is not, same as Hour one of the Best albums ever made. So much power lies in that songs.

Funeral For A Friend's creativity is endless. All their 6 albums represent the most technical aspects, the best melodies, the most awesome lyrics and they always find the best way to express emotions through music.

Honestly, when "Tales Don't Tell Themselves" I had honestly thought Funeral For A Friend were going to break through to an even larger audience with how catchy and melodic the material was. I've, look at recent setlists and songs from the record are rarely included. I'd like to know how the band feels about that album now. Although I do remember an interview where they said (at that time in their careers) "Spinning Over The Island" was their favorite song to play live.

Tales never really clicked with me, but Memory is a good album front to back.

I agree, Tales and Memory are way too overlooked and I see no reason for it. They are a bit more on the melodic side (well, Memory has a few agressive songs) but all songs on them are killer. I even consider Tales to be my favourite FFAF record.

For some reason I feel like "Tales Don't Tell Themselves" and "Memory And Humanity" are overlooked. "Welcome Home Armageddon" is starting to feel that way too, but I guess when they have so many albums and they can only play so much live, they need to support the newest record and please the fans with the "Casually Dressed..." and "Hours" material.

Post-hardcore and rock is fine. Emo is still underground where it's always been.

Pretty much like every song off their Hours album

    julho 2013
  • thompsonjohn

I could careless as to what "genre" they fit into. What really matters is that album to album, they are consistently very good, and always write catchy songs. I love this band. "Conduit" their latest album was a bit different as they kind of went right for the throat and tried to write a more straight up hardcore record with the longest song being like 3:37, "High Castles." And as much as I love hardcore, ironically it's their one album I'm kind of mixed on. They stick to their usual formula and they'll do just fine. Far as genres go I'd say they're something like "Post-Hardcore/Melodic Hardcore." By no means, "emo", what an outdated phrase.

    julho 2013
  • Dyomaeth

Yes, FFAF do have emo elements in their music and overall it's pretty accurate, but I personally like to call their music "poetic post-hardcore". They have the artistic approach and they have the post-hardcore punch. They owe a lot to Glassjaw and Fugazi, but have a very unique aesthetic to their music, which is closer to pop rock (the good kind of it).

    julho 2013
  • bobo9390

Yeah, the emo tag shouldn't be a surprise. The majority of listeners are listening to Casually Dressed and Hours, both of which were released when tons of bands were being called "emo" by the press, accurately or not. That tag is stuck to FFAF forever.
