      2005
      19th Sep: HIM (Anathema)

      2006
      26th Jan: HIM (Anathema)
      - It was all way too intense for me at the front, I think (typical of a HIM gig), so I got out and stood at the side and met Vincent Cavanagh from Anathema when he was on his way from the backstage area to the bar, so that was nice.
The thing about HIM is that the utter hysteria of the audience ruins it a bit for me. Both of these gigs could've been so much better if more of the audience were being courteous and decent human beings to their fellow audience members instead of clamouring for Ville Valo's sweat in a cup. Having said that, that intense atmosphere also is amazing to be in the middle of.
Anathema have a lovely cover version of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb.

6th May: Mendeed (The Red October, Big Hand, A Day Called Desire)
      - I'm not even sure I was at this, but I know I went to a gig at the Underworld and the date seems right and the bands seem familiar, so this is a guess. …

    • Every band I've ever seen live that I can remember

      Nov 27 2007, 17h51 por distractedk

I stole the idea from The_Derm :-) in case he's wondering!

I've been meaning to do this for ages but have only just got round to finishing it off in any spare time I get.

So, here's a list of bands I've seen from April 1986 (Twisted Sister) to 9 November 2009 (Motorhead and Sweet Savage).

      458 and counting...

I'm pretty sure there are loads more I've forgotten but I'll update it as and when I remember.

Anything with an asterisk are bands I've seen more than once. I think Nick Cave (solo and with his Bad Seeds) is at the top with ten combined gigs.

Not that anyone cares...it's just me being anal ;-)

    • Meaningless Lists?

      Mai 15 2007, 22h24 por davess

      first posted here

(Probably I'll keep updating this journal post, very occasionally, but not the original).

      Our lives are so....
It has been kind of interesting to sit and try and remember bands I've seen, the main period being the 80s (with the 90s full of poverty and loss of interest, the 2000s being abroad and away from most of it, and some loss of focus), but for what it's worth (and I'm not really sure how meaningful this listing is) here's my list of what bands really matter to me (in their various ways) from what I can remember of what I've seen. The whole list is a lot more, and I'm sure there's plenty I can't remember, but I'm sure that doesn't really matter.

      UK Subs
      Crass
      Poison Girls
      Zounds
      Discharge
      The Vibrators
      Bad Brains
      Public Image Ltd.
      Minutemen
      Black Flag
      Dead Kennedys
      Redskins
      Killing Joke
      Bauhaus
      Damned
      Siouxsie & The Banshees
      Southern Death Cult
      Sex Gang Children
      Fall
      Cheetah Chrome Motherfuckers
      Negazione
      BGK
      The Mob

    • ** work in progress ** Gigs I've been to, bands I've seen

      Fev 4 2007, 18h52 por purplefluid

So I used to keep a record of gigs I'd been to and bands I'd seen, a habit I got out of over time. Got to thinking maybe I'd compile such a list here although I think it'll be a work in progress for some time as I trawl through my memory, ticket stubs and the like :)

Just to get the ball rolling, the first gig I went to was in 1988 at the Cornwall Colliseum (SW England) and I saw The Mission and The Mighty Lemon Drops. Guess this'll become more of a straight forward list, hmmmm we'll see.

24/11/88 - The Mission; The Mighty Lemon Drops - Cornwall Colliseum
18/02/89 - New Model Army; Fuse - Exeter Uni Great Hall
28/03/89 - Jive Turkey; Blind Descent - Exeter Arts Centre
01/06/89 - Fields of the Nephilim; Mary My Hope - Plymouth Academy
16/06/89 - Spacemen 3; Mudlark; Taphouse - Exeter Uni Lemon Grove
25/08/89 - Sugarcubes; House of Love; Swans; Spacemen 3; Gaye Bykers On Acid - Reading Festival
26/08/89 - The Pogues; New Model Army; The Wedding Present; The Men They Couldn't Hang; Something Happens - Reading Festival
