  • Music accompany to Fixkes, Arthur Adam concert

    Jan 29 2008, 10h45 por aRj4n

Sat 26 Jan – Fixkes, Arthur Adam
In short: pretty decent evening. Arthur Adam was breathtaking from time to time (check him out here) and Fixkes (website) showed us why they’re so popular in Belgium, with catchy tunes and clever lyrics. “Buurman, wat doet u nu?” ;)

I provided the music around the bands for this concert night. The following is what was played:

    1. Long Winters – The Commander Thinks Aloud
    2. Cub Country – St Louis
    3. Sergeant Petter – TocarPerfection
    4. The Thermals – TocarBallad of Big Nothing
    5. Fokofpolisiekar – Oop Vir Misinterpretasie
    6. Gitbox! – Sweet And Low
    7. Fink – Trouble’s What You’re In
    8. Geoff Farina – Femmes Damnées
    9. Emma Pollock – Limbs
    10. Coparck – TocarTime Is Short
    11. Andrew Bird – TocarPlasticities (faded out cos of start of concert)

    *** Arthur Adam concert ***

    12. Benjamin Gibbard – TocarYou Remind Me of Home
    13. catpower – silver stallion
    14. Flip Kowlier – In de fik
    15. Spinvis – Het voordeel van video
    16. Feist – 1234
    17. No Kids – Bluster In The Air
    18. The Good Life – Lovers Need Lawyers
    19. Georgie James – Comfortable Headphones (faded out due to start of concert)

    *** Fixkes concert ***

*** Friendly take over by “Diep in de Groef” DJ’s snoerendbart en Quasimodus starting off with (if I remember correctly) Shawn Lee's Ping Pong Orchestra – Hey Ya (beautiful cover btw) and giving me extra time to start that evening’s pub crawl ;) ***

  • Discovering music around the world - South-Africa

    Jun 17 2007, 15h06 por Clausule

In this journal I make up two Top 10's of artists from a non-English speaking country anywhere in the world. I'll look a that country's weekly top artists and pick out the 10 highest ranked bands or artists from that country. I'll make a top 10 for artists who sing in their own language and a top 10 for artists who sing in English or produce instrumental tracks.

    We're studying South Africa:

    Top 10 own languages (Afrikaans)*:
    01. Fokofpolisiekar
    02. Koos Kombuis
    03. Chris Chameleon
    04. Karen Zoid

*Besides Afrikaans and English, South Africa has got 9 more official languages (all in the Bantu family, like Zulu) but only this 4 Afrikaans singing acts were ranked in this week's charts.

    Top 10 English or instrumental:
    01. Seether
    02. Springbok Nude Girls
    03. Prime Circle
    04. Arno Carstens
    05. The Parlotones
    06. Just Jinger
    07. The Narrow
    08. Chris Chameleon
    09. Lark
    10. Fuzigish

These are just the bands that are highest ranked in this week's last.fm chart. If you think these bands suck, be sure to add your favourites below.
