the boys who died in their sleep isnt my fav. song from the album, but its definitely so memorable for some reason. Even when the album preview was going around, that snippet "I know a place..." was stuck in my head for dayz

Youre Dead! got me into FlyLo. Im acutally a Rock and Jazz Fan but this music feels so alive, it makes everything alse look boring.

The vinyl mastering is indeed better, but you might have the shitty leak version if you think the drums sound like garbage. The 'loud' sound is definitely intentional on Flylo's part though, and I'm sure he's explained in recent interviews why he likes it as it is. As far as I can tell, the 'hotness' kind of recedes as the album goes on, like it assaults you at first before easing into something more comfortable by the end... also, that hidden track is fucking fantastic.

I do like the new album, but its poor mastering is such a turn off. Does anyone else find the drums on Cold Dead (for example) just sound like garbage? I wonder if someone who has a vinyl copy can confirm if it sounds better. I appreciate that Flying Lotus himself might not be responsible for it - it's a shame more than anything.

bizarre jazz-fusion thing going on on last album - still haven't made my mind up whether it's ingenious or just god damn awful - probably a good thing ;)

Lotus has always had short songs, and this album rules.

Shaggylicious: Maybe try Yppah, Bonobo (ah, I see you already know Bonobo), or Gold Panda? If you like the intensity and depth, but don't mind something that doesn't come from hip-hop, check out Tim Hecker's new album.

@SouptheHoop YES! The track lengths are way to short which makes me sad. I can get into music with a lot going on but this album is different. You need to focus on the music and basically knock out any other distractions. I usually do that with concept albums because I want to FEEL what it's on about. And I did feel it.

To me it feels like a movie where the single tracks are just chapter selections, like on a DVD. This album is supposed to be listened in full.

Is it really a surprise that people are going to mention the short track lengths? I don't think of that as being a very critical observation. At least for me, It's just something I noticed more with this album. Everything is so free-flowing and dynamic that it FEELS like its going to go on forever, but then it stops short and transitions into another equally complex composition. I also think this is the hardest album by Flylo to fully digest (in a good way). There's just sooo much shit going on in it. I fully agree with Optimistic's comment, though, and that's kind of my overall feeling about the album's structure now. Anyways, I don't mean to sound like I know shit. I just wish I could get lost in a couple of these tracks for another minute or two (Cold Dead and Moment of Hesitation come to mind).
