One of the best bands from their era (which includes such "lightweights" as the beatles, the who, stones, kinks, etc) why such little love here? WHAT THE HELL?

First three albums are great. After that, not so much. The stuff that sounds like they are trying too hard to bring the 60s back is audibly pleasing but sort of weirds me out for some reason.

@smichaelgbg--- 13th Fl Elevators might have been the ultimate SF band if they were not from Texas. As for The Flamin' Groovies, they were pretty much out of step with the whole SF acid rock scene anyway. They just played the way they wanted to, regardless of west or east coast fashions. Good thing too-- their first 3 albums (with Roy Loney) contain some of the most direct and heart-felt rock'n'roll ever recorded, imo.

many critics consider the Flamin' Groovies to be one of the earliest West Coast pre-punk bands.
