Some say it was a flop, some say it ruled. I can't really decide, all I know is that my body is severly broken. And that I hate rain when you sleep in a tent. Anyways, I attended to much more shows than originally planned, which is a good thing. Here comes all the shows I saw at Hultsfred and a short review.
The first thing I really saw was Tingsek but I didn't really get the chance to make something out of it since I left so fast.
Next up was Mapei. She ruled, just like I thought she would. She rules at freestyling.
A short break and then we went to see Laakso. I haven't really listened to them much, but they threw a hell of a show. Peter Jöback on Italy vs. Helsinki too, niice.
Now, Laakso got off at 19.30 and the next thing I wanted to see was Uffie at 22.30. The problem was that I had no beer, and I needed to go get it, which took quite some time and I finally got back to our camp with the beer, managed to drink one or two and then rushed back to the festival area to see Uffie. Her boyfriend Feadz had already begun his set, which was fine for me because I was really there for Uffie. She finally got up and kicked ass. I was pretty drunk by this time (I have a low tolerance allright!) and I jumped and danced like a madman. I really wanted her to notice me, drunk and wild as I was, so I really tried to jump higher than anyone else. Which worked, because she saw me, pointed at me and did a 'come here'-sign with her finger. Success. I became too tired and sweaty after a while so I took a break for air and water and went back.
Then that show was over and we had quite a gap until Justice began at 02.00. We went back to camp and I was tired as hell and took a one hour or so nap. Then we went to Atlantis where Justice was to have their set. Loads of people were there and everyone were excited. I was almost by the fence. Finally the boys came up and started their set. After about ten minutes in I realized I wasn't going to stand the madness that was going on there in the front. If I was to stand there for and hour, I would die. So I got lifted over and chilled with the medics and drank water for a while and then went back out to see the rest. They were quite a disappointment, sadly. A quite uninteresting setlist.
Everybody else were tired after Justice and went back to camp to sleep, but I had energy left after that little nap so I stayed at the festival area, aiming for Timo Räisänen at 04.00, the last show for the day. And thank god I did. It was the best show of the festival and probably one of the best shows I've ever seen. I hadn't really heard much of him before, but he really blessed me with that show. I'll definetily see him again when I get a chance. The sing-a-long on "Fear No Darkness, Promised Child" is unbeatable. Plus his stripping. Oh yeah. Anyways. Even though I by this time almost knew that nothing would beat Timo I went back to camp to sleep.
Day two began with Theo bringing me to Bring Me the Fucking Riot... Man which was also a pleasant surprise. I'd heard about the band, but not any songs, but they kicked ass even though they were so early. I have to find some songs with them.
After BMTFR Theo went backstage but I didn't really want to come so I hung around by myself for a while. After some walking around I sat down by the Pampas-stage where Laleh was about to go on. I've seen her before but not on such a big stage, but I think she took it all up. She's so cute and always seems so confused but still like she knows what she's doing. She did a really nice version of 'Hide Away' on piano.
After Laleh I really wanted to be with someone so I called a friend who at that time was seeing Salem Al Fakir, but I wanted to see Taxi, taxi! so I waited for her outside the place where they were playing. I was one of the first people to be there so we got placed by the fence. The sisters were all cute and great, nice to get some downtempo-stuff for a change. Even though there were some technical difficulties with some feedback and stuff, but I list this as one of the top three with Uffie and Timo.
After that I hooked up with the rest of my camp-friends and went to see Mando Diao. I've seen them before too, but now they had the biggest stage on the whole festival. Quite a change to little Debaser where I saw them the last time. They put on a good show, with all the classic songs, nothing really special though.
After that Wolfmother, they were pretty good, nothing special there either, even though they have a few kickass songs.
Then we had the man the myth the legend Ozzy Osbourne. What can I say? Nothing special. Really. Fucking Zakk Wylde and that fifteen minute guitar solo. Fuck you Zakk. It really upset me.
Anyhoo, Amy Winehouse 23.45. She has a good voice, but I could only see a few songs because then we had to go to the Hawaii-stage to see another myth and legend, namely 50 Cent.
He sucked, allright let's get a move on.
Me and Joakim saw a few Fitty-songs and then rushed to the dance-stage where Surkin had his set. I wasn't really impressed here either, sadly. Everyone else seemed to have a good time though. Maybe because they all were drunk and I was not, I don't know.
Well, after Surkin everyone else went back to camp while I stayed, as usual. I wanted to catch Familjen at 03.30, but I felt the sleepyness creeping up on me. Jumped around a while to not get too sleepy and then went to the Pampas-stage to see Marit Bergman who started at 02.45. She threw on a great show for starting so late, but after I while I caught myself sitting down and constantly falling asleep so I decided to skip Familjen and go back to camp and sleep. I kinda regret it.
Then we have the doomed day three. It started well with a little group called Stylusorkestern who played songs on their Nintendo DS'. Then my friends wanted to go back to camp but I really wanted to see The Blood Brothers, and so I did. By myself, but what the hell. They played two of my favorites, Peacock Skeleton With Crooked Feathers and Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck, so I was satisfied. Plus one of the singers is pretty hot. Haha.
After BB I got dragged to Fibes, Oh Fibes!. They were allright I guess. I just wasn't in the mood.
Next up was Säkert!. It was Annikas first show under the name and she kicked ass. She brought in some guests, Martin from Vapnet and Markus from Laakso. Both from Norrland, why am I not surprised. Anyhow, she rocked.
Then we had Turbonegro at 19.00. The rain really had started to come down by now and I wasn't really in such a good mood, but who doesn't love Turbonegro? I gave them some love in the front audience, but then I went back and took some shelter from the rain. There was a small gap after Turbo, but then there was The Ark at 22.00. They got me with their last song, a sing-a-long version of 'It Takes A Fool To Remain Sane'. That one really made me forget about the awful weather for a few minutes, but other than that the show wasn't all that great.
I'm really sad I missed Roky Erickson, but I totally forgot about him in that fucking rain.
Then Andreas Tilliander had a set so we went to see him. He played some interesting stuff, including a dub track. Nice. Hooked up with another friend and then we didn't really know where to go, so we went inside the Atlantis-tent and sat down. I made a little hut with my sweater because it was so cold and then Shout Out Louds went on stage and that was pretty cosy, half-sleeping inside my little sweater hut listening to them. Then Joakim woke me up and said that we had to go see Does It Offend You, Yeah?. We did, and there was only one guy there and he threw a set instead of playing live stuff, which I though they would. Anyhow, he was good. The most interesting DJ I ever saw aw Hultsfred anyways.
Then there was Pet Shop Boys! They had a really really sweet backdrop and a great show. Like a friend said, "I didn't really know if I was watching a concert or a play".
Then we had to leave the animal boys to go to SebastiAn which was the last thing I was to see, for good or bad. The rain was almost unbearable by now, at 01.50, and no one had any rain clothes. Thank god SebastiAns set was underneath a tent. Anyhoo, he went up and did his set and I was kinda disappointed by him too. Very unfortunately because I'd really looked forward to it. I don't know if it was because of the weater I didn't like it or... Whatever. I wanted to see Slagsmålsklubben at 04.00 too, but the weather was like living hell and I was really tired so I didn't really feel like it. So we went back to the camp and slept the rain away and almost all of my clothes got wet and I was so mad and tired that I trashed my tent in the morning. I had noooo energy to carry it with me, really.
Well, a pretty decent festival all in all. I really just wanted to go home that last day, but Säkert! and Blood Brothers saved that day for me. Now I'm finally home again, caught with a cold and pretty bad tinnitus. Yes.
Top 3 at Hultsfred for those of you who didn't catch it:
1. Timo Räisänen, BY FAR.
2. Uffie
3. Taxi, Taxi!
