  • Mix w farmakologii. Recenzja "Robin" made by Farmakon.

    Mai 27 2009, 12h15 por Blackscrew

Na początek słów kilka tytułem wstępu. Jestem rozczarowany nowym Mastodonem, Dillinger Escape Plan już mnie tak nie kręci, a i nowy Isis przepłynął sobie obojętnie obok mego narządu słuchu. Z dzieł nowszych słuchałem Odd Senses PsyOpus'a.
Numer dwa. Coma September. Osadzony w punku. Przynajmniej mam takie odczucie. Melodyjnie. A pan gitarzysta gra solo swojego życia.
I spokojna partią melodyjną przypominającą mi Blind Guardian.
Dotarliśmy do połowy albumu. Recognite to w moim odczuciu autoparodia w stylu Zappy okraszona świetnym solo. A, przepraszam, nastąpiło pierdolnięcie w twarz.
A pan wokalista z powodzeniem udaje kobietę.
No tak - znowu wywiedli mnie w pole i przyjebali w najmniejspodziewanym momencie.
Sekcja rytmiczna niebezpiecznie ociera się o materię z Irony Is a Dead Scene. I jedziemy dalej w stronę Paradise Lost.
Ostro.
Ostatni utwór, to instrumentalny [track artist=Farmakon]The Mentally Disabled Guy And The Artist[/track]. 7 minutowa instrumentalna suita pięknie zamykająca całość.

    Plusy:
    - Bee Gees obok deathmetalowej jazdy
    - Meshuggah na dyskotece
    - Zdehumanizowane solo saksofonu w Recognite
    - Masa innych wtrętów
    - Całośc mimo, że różna jest bardzo spójna
    - Pan wokalista udający PJ Harvey
    - Motyw solo w outro

    Wady:
    - Produkcja

    Werdykt:
    8+/10

  • Bands I've seen live

    Fev 24 2009, 6h29 por ztl_olmi

As I can't really ever remember all the artists I've seen live and someone always asks, I thought it'd be good to make a comprehensive list (this also allows me to clear out those retarded "seen live" tags that I used to mark the bands so I could remember them). This list won't have exactly all (I might not remember one or two and I don't know the names of a couple), but the bulk is here (regardless of whether I liked them or not). Also this is probably the best time to make this list as I can't afford to go to concerts any time soon.

  • Metal bands that have released an album/EP in 2009

    Dez 31 2008, 18h13 por gunleik

I WILL DO ONE LAST UPDATE AT THE END OF THE YEAR

    READ THIS:
Firstly, some of this info IS wrong. Since it's so many bands, and the dates may change etc., I can't keep track of them all.
    TBA means to be announced.
Some of the albums on WILL RELEASE may be working titles, which means that the band may change it. That counts for the release dates too.

    Example:

  • THE BLUE WALL: Progressive Metal

    Dez 17 2008, 1h23 por maidenhell

    Progressive Radio

    History of Progressive Metal

This is perhaps the most confusing of the sub-genres as it encompasses so many different styles...Progressive metal (sometimes shortened to prog metal) is a fusion genre; a mixture of progressive rock and heavy metal. Progressive metal blends the powerful, guitar-driven sound of metal with the complex compositional structures, odd time signatures, and intricate instrumental playing of progressive rock. Some progressive metal bands are also influenced by jazz fusion and classical music. Like progressive rock songs, progressive metal songs are usually much longer than standard metal songs, and they are often thematically linked in concept albums. As a result, progressive metal is rarely heard on mainstream radio and video programs.

  • Death metal that doesnt get the recognition it deserves :/

    Dez 1 2008, 17h40 por The_Night_Head

Edge of Sanity - Listen to Crimson & Crimson II. Really nothing more needs to be said. The other albums are some pretty good textbook death metal too.

Sadist - Their 1993 debut , Above The Light, is easily their most epic work, and is one of those timeless death metal masterpieces you hear so little about. Their new albums (everything after and including 2000) are alright too, but it's just not the same without the vocals :/

Obsidian - Definitely recommend to Meshuggah fans, they have all the technicality, and riffs that could destroy a building. The only downside being the vocals, but the sheer skill and pure awesomeness they put into the music makes up for that.

Hacksaw To The Throat - Fresh faces to the death metal scene, their Wastelands album is sheer progdeath genius. Dont let the band name fool you, they make beautiful music whislt still maintaining the brutal overtones.

Farmakon - Firstly, no, they are not just Opeth clones, sonically it's a very different experience, and while they may share ideas and stylistic elements with the likes of Opeth, I think many will appreciate their apt but unrelenting brutality, whilst still making the time to experiment with their sound, and take their music to the frontier of artistic creativity. Both albums are awesome tbh.

Alchemist - Psychedelic death metal, yeh, I didnt believe myself either when I first heard it, they basically sound like what Zappa would sound like if he had been making death metal :D all their albums are pretty good tbh

The Faceless and Lykathea Aflame - Imagine being bound and gagged, and then brutally raped over and over gain, until your asshole is spewing blood and your anal muscles wont contract...beautiful, isnt it :D These bands would be playing the theme music to said raping :D Except their music is not just mindless destruction, as prog/tech death bands they fuse sheer brutality, technical virtuosity, creative lyrics, and 'artistic vision' to create one sublime experience. Both bands are hard to grasp on the first listen, but once you become familiar withn them you wont be able to help but marvel at their precision and creativity. All their albums are just as awesome as each other tbh.

The Monolith Deathcult - Industrial death metal. They have a lot electronic inlfuence in their sound, and while their not the first band to mix electro and death metal, the seamless integration between these two extremes is truly astonishing. Thus far I have only heard their latest work, Trivmvirate, but it has everything from electro synths, to chamber choirs, to shattering atmospherics, whilst still staying true to death metal.

  • Some new purchases.

    Jul 31 2008, 23h08 por Godcrusher

    Callisto : "Noir"

A bit poppy version of swedish Cult of Luna's back catalogue. However, really intriguing mixture of doomcore and softer elements. Incredible ending, "Woven Hands". Recommended for the fans Cult of Luna, Isis and Burst.

    Esoteric : "The Maniacal Vale"

If you sometimes feel a bit frustrated, listening to this album will most likely take you to the edge of suicide. During the 102 minutes, the listener is dragged into the eye of the storm, drowned in a sea of solitude, bereft of sanity... The list of emotions you can feel is practically endless. Really dangerous music, but highly recommended for those who seek extreme emotional response from the low ends of the spectrum.

    Farmakon : "Robin"

Smudgy sound quality startles me with negative vibes at first - but underneath the awkwardly mixed album, it's a real jem. Multifaceted songs with everything but linear riff development have something drasticly similar to Opeth, but a lot of different elements have been added. Recommended for any unprejudiced metal fan.

    Scar Symmetry : "Holographic Universe"

Two previous Scar Symmetry -albums have both earned respectable playtime on my player, and it is practically self-explanatory that "Holographic Universe" will get some of that too. Anybody who thinks that the two previous albums lacked catchy choruses or proficient musicianship needs to get their ears checked. They redefined the structure melodic (death) metal genre, but sadly "Holographic Universe" is left pale beside it's predecessors. A few songs are really great - the title song tops even "Chaosweaver" - but there's just too much going on and it all drops down in a big mess of fillers.

    Therion : "Gothic Live" [DVD]

This goes to the top quality -end of my DVD-purchases. Where "Celebrators of Becoming" was a megalomanic, yet kinda "unaimed" package featuring pretty much everything there is to be in a music DVD, "Gothic Live" is more of an efficient synopsis of everything that Therion needs to display. Four incredibly talented steal the show both visually and audibly, the band creates a perfect soundtrack for the work of the singers on this DVD. One of the best DVD-purchases I've ever bought. Recommended for the likes of any music listener in general.

    Ulver: Teachings in Silence

Ulver has been one of my favorite bands for ages now, and having owned both of the EPs compiled to this one, this purchase is nothing more but an add-up for the collection. However, this album still stands as one of the Ulver's most weirdly ambient collage. "Darling, Didn't We Kill You?" is a really great track. Recommended for those who seek open landscapes from their music and are not afraid to approach electronic standpoints in painting them.
