After much investigate on several pages of the net about music, I re-compiled the necessary information to find the best groups and soloists of the history of music.

The whole world knows that the best music always will be the classic music, but for those who are not prepared such mastery and talent, one can accede to "easier" music to listen like it is the Rock or similar.

I first discovered Vincent E. L. a couple of months back, when, on a high from re-watching Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, I ordered the DVD from Amazon and found that there had been a fan competition in which enthusiasts could submit their own 'applications' to join the infamous Evil League of Evil.

Now all the winners in this competition were brilliant in their own ways, but the one that stuck out for me was a vaguely disturbing video of a freaky puppet reverend performing a frankly brilliant rap song. I'm not going to pretend to be some kind of expert when it comes to rap music (I listen to a lot of Jurassic 5, Eric B. & Rakim, Beastie Boys, Main Source, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and similar ilk, but I'm predominantly a rock listener) but I do love it when it's done right.

The Reverend's ELE Application is a work of brilliance. The first line...
"Not to be confused with the master of puppets,
I'm the Plush Preacher, Father Felt, the Pastor of Muppets."
... sets the tone for what is clearly a tongue-in-cheek song, but also displays Vincent's knack for picking out intelligent rhymes.

The way that Vincent E. L. delivers his rhymes on Crazy Talk reminds me of MC Abdominal on Rap Machine or Jurassic 5's Mark 7even on A Day at the Races and while The Cautionary Tale of the Big Bad Wolf runs the risk of being written off as a novelty song it's so well written that you can't help but admire it. It also features some of my favourite lyrics:
"Gather round children and listen to
A tale which obviously isn't true
But you still might learn a thing or two
From the Cautionary Tale of the Big Bad Wolf"

So clearly we aren't talking about a guy who takes himself too seriously, and that's part of the charm of the music in my opinion. In A Topic As Good As Any, Vincent discusses the 'light' nature of his songs:
"They just look at me Alien like I'm Ridley Scott and say
"You can't just rap about diddley squat!" "Why not?"
Yes I can, here's one of a number of fine reasons
Jerry Seinfeld had a show about it
For nine seasons
And that worked just fine for him didn't it
So why do I need a topic or a gimmick
It's just stupid, about as pointless as my lyrics"

One of his more recent tracks, Does Soup Even Come in Bottles? addresses the relative success of The Reverend's ELE Application ("I'm completely unknown all across Sweden, meanwhile my puppet's sharing disc space with Joss Whedon") while reflecting on the difficulty of breaking into the music industry ("Admiration's given only to limitations, originality's taboo, uniformity's chic")

But it's not just the lyrics that are supremely impressive here. No, the beats (self-made by Vincent himself) are way more interesting than you hear on most records, with several instrumental tracks (Med En Massa Zombies, Specs, Lice and Videotape and The Long Journey from Point A to Point B in particular) suggesting that this is a guy with a genuine ear for music, as well as a guy who has a lot of fun creating new sounds.

What I've written here is nothing more than a bunch of ill-informed (and vaguely sleep-deprived) gushing over songs that I cannot stop myself from listening to over and over, by a guy who simply isn't getting the attention he deserves, but it's rare that I find myself so overly enthusiastic about an artist (especially as I grow ever more bitter and jaded). Most of his songs are available to listen to or download for free on his Last.fm or Soundclick pages and there's absolutely no reason for you to not go and check them out.

Then buy them from his Soundclick store, even the ones you can get for free.
