Epica é uma banda de Symphonic Gothic Metal da Holanda, com vocal feminino e vocal gutural, criada no final de 2002. Possuídores de quatro álbuns cujas letras tratam o amor, o ódio, a agonia e o sentido da vida. Epica foi formada por Mark Jansen (ex-guitarrista e fundador do After Forever).
Biografia
No final de 2002, Mark Jansen saiu da banda After Forever e começou a procurar músicos para se integrarem ao seu novo projeto, inicialmente nomeado Sahara Dust. No começo de 2003, a banda contou com Helena Michaelsen (ex-integrante do Trail of Tears) como vocalista, mas logo depois ela abandonou o grupo e deu lugar para uma, até então, desconhecida mezzo-soprano, Simone Simons, namorada de Jansen. A banda estava completa com o guitarrista Ad Sluijter, baterista Jeroen Simons, baixista Yves Huts e o tecladista Coen Janssen. Em 2003 ainda intitulada Sahara Dust lançou a demo Cry For The Moon. No mesmo ano o nome da banda mudou para Epica, inspirado no álbum homônimo da banda Kamelot e, em junho, a banda lança seu primeiro álbum entitulado The Phantom Agony com 9 faixas em que se destacam Cry For The Moon; Feint (que são dois singles do mesmo álbum) e The Phantom Agony.
Em 2004, Epica lançou o DVD We Will Take You With Us que incluía gravações em estúdio de músicas do álbum The Phantom Agony, making of, os vídeos deles até o momento - Feint e The Phantom Agony e biografia. Chegado Abril de 2005 Epica lança Consign To Oblivion que fez aumentar vertiginosamente o número de fãs, em outros países da Europa e América do Sul.

I am a sucker for solos... badass solos are just completely kickass. If they had more solos... I'd probably appreciate them more. I still like Epica though. :p

IMO the solo guitar on Beyond Belief is a bit poor (just a bit, don't kill me!) I also would like to hear more of Ad. But i don't find solos necessary on Epica, they would be nice, but this band is already awesome.

She is very pretty, beautiful, everything, but like it's been said before. It is a band. I want more guitar solos, but not in every song. Not even in every other song. I would just like 'some' guitar solos. Have Ad do his thing. lol

hmmm Ariën' s surely a skilled symph/power metal drummer, varied but still fast (and all well joined with other instruments of course). I think he's way better than the previous one and quite on the same level as Amberian Down's one, well, maybe he's a little more... 'raging', but having seen both of them live last month, I have to say that I preferred Ariën's performence. He was really good, warm and I felt like he worked out quite a lot his parts playing live putting fast fills here and there. He also interacted well with the crowd, through the show and also after (he was quietly walking with a beer in his hand and chatting to anyone:). However Amberian Down is a technically good band, maybe better than Epica too, in particoular concerning guitars xD (as the presence of some solos in their album suggests)

Yeah, I 've seen Epica live recently (October) and I thought that the drummer of Epica was brilliant, but the drummer of Amberian Dawn was great, as well..In genereal, their performance was great...I've seen them in Karlsruhe...amazing show..
