K-Pop didn't start this. The slang became really popular about 10 years ago with the rise of social media, but its popularity is rooted in the hip-hop community where it was frequently used. "Stan" and "a stan" are both obsessed fans, that's the only similiarity tho. Saying you "stan" someone doesn't mean you model yourself on Stan nor does it mean you missed the message of the song. It's just language developing.
