ELP like other guys in a band {know the basic feeling) get to stretch out a bit away from the usual personae of the band. What's wrong with that? Nothing. Music is also great when it can evolve. In this case ELP on the song/album mix some Bluegrass,Blues & Jazz with the "Roaring Twenties" - like feel into their repertoire. Nicely done, lads. It was said "Tiger..." was recorded back 4 yrs earlier during the "Brain Salad Surgery" sessions (1973) And @wycedriver below is 100% spot on with his comments.

LOVE this track and this album. Shows that it didn't have to be all about classical reinterpretations or orchestrated epics. But hey, what do I know......I rate Love Beach as well (appart from the cover).

This is not bad but one can tell that the end was approaching for a once great band.

I love it when Keith plays the "prepared" piano. Prepared is when the hammers that strike the keys have had thumbtacks or similar metallic material attached to them, creating a very distinctive sound typical of "lower quality" pianos of the early 20th century, usually located in "houses of ill repute", juke joints, and "barrelhouses" (where barrels of liquor were stored). Keith has taken many cues from Scott Joplin, Meade "Lux" Lewis, Jellyroll Morton, Albert Ammons and other barrelhouse piano thumpers. Yes, "The Sherriff" does fit into that mold. Wonderful stuff, isn't it?

Cool riff, similar to the one from Let's Go Crazy from Prince I guess.

This tune and "The Sheriff" from Trilogy are both off-spring wonders that followed the times with their energy and innovation of technology.

This is a fun little number. Not necessarily characteristic of ELP, but it's darn good anyway.
