I've been searching for the Mark and Brian Christmas year that ELP did this already magnificent piece....but live, with that choir, man! Chills and tears, it was that good. And the story of how the choir had to practice for it.....Would love to obtain any form of that performance...KLOS never answers back when I query them. Shame....

I'll never forget ELP's Live performance of this song at the Mark and Brian Christmas Show several years ago. Is it December yet?

They said there'll be snow at Christmas, they said there'll be peace on Earth, but instead it just kept on raining.

This is an excellent song, enjoyable any time of the year. And you're right, balaftuna, the cynicism usually passes right over people's heads. Allmusic says, "Greg Lake's lyrics only rehash seasons greetings." Obviously, the reviewer didn't actually listen to the lyrics at all. Nevermind that Peter Sinfield wrote the lyrics. Bah humbug, indeed.

OH bless you..... I wish this had made the number one slot. I listened earnestly at the time but alas number 2 is where it stayed.

Great song. The best part is that people hear 'x-mass' and therefore play it during the holiday season, missing the cynicism completely.

This cynical little ditty would have been, in its better-known Greg Lake version, a UK no. 1 except that Queen happened to release something called 'Bohemian Rhapsody' that year. Neither track has worn well.

It's played to death on the classic-rock radio stations in NE Ohio. Still think it's a great song.
