To dig up this thread a bit, RE: "The spin of the earth impaled a silhouette of the sun on the steeple" I would have to say that is imagery, only thing I imagine when hearing that after repeating it and breaking it down is a steeple with a shadow. And that shadow being watched as the sun rises and falls. Or it could be more bold and just be "everything" that reminds her to him. And just as I post it, I see 4 posts down someone already said that. shiz

The Arab er mjög gestrisin maður.

That guitar gives it a vibe a bit like Bowie's Letter to Hermione.

impaled silhouette of the Sun on the steeple due to the earth rotation(sunrise/sunset). its only an imaginary landscape. no pretentious verses, its a direct and sincere song

And it's possible to lose some respect for some of his songwriting because he was a great guitarist, composer and arranger.

How does that verse of subjective symbolism convey any objective truth about how he felt??? It makes no sense and pretty much detracts from and completely obscures the symbolism. Plus, the earth's rotation... goddamit, whatever. "Ignorant fuck"? Hmm...

"Subjective symbolism? Nonsense. Word salad? Yes." Kay, you ignorant fuck.

"I think I've lost respect for E.S.. " that's certainly your loss, fella. You went from calling this a tearjerker to flat out "losing respect" - that's bogus.

I guess you don't get the song then. It's okay, you will get over it.

Subjective symbolism? Nonsense. Word salad? Yes. Just goes to show that he was far to loose with his metaphor.

v ..what? Yes, it does. The spin of the Earth IMPALED a silhouette of the sun < take that as one sentence, and then > on the steeple. The silhouette was on the steeple. I'm not entirely sure what HE meant by that lyric, but it's subjective symbolism.

"The spin of the Earth impaled a silhouette of the Sun on the steeple." That makes noooooooo poetical or logical sense whatsoever. I think I've lost respect for E.S..
