The Swiss/Liechtenstein formation ELIS featuring front lady Sabine Duenser began their musical career under the name ERBEN DER SCHÖPFUNG. In 2001 they released their first single Elis as well as their debut album Twilight, thrilling the hearts of gothic metal fans worldwide. The music found on the aforementioned releases oscillates from clear vocal lines to the sharp attacks of guitars and the driving beats of the rhythm section. A mélange of classical and electronic elements compliment the gothic metal concoction, adding a distinctive feature to the already memorable compositions.
The band has appeared live at the Wave Gotik Festival in Leipzig, among others, has held on to favourable positioning on the DAC-Charts, and has remained well represented in the scene’s press. Germany’s Orkus Magazine, for example, featured ERBEN DER SCHÖPFUNG as their top newcomer act of the month. This choice was later more than confirmed by the publication’s readership, who extended the honour by choosing the band as their NEWCOMER of 2001.
Following their split with Oliver Falk, Sabine Duenser and co. re-emerged in 2003 under the new alias ELIS, yet still quite capable of an impressive showing, as their debut proved.

haha, sometimes i don't even understand them when they're talking (cause of their swiss and austrian accents), let alone the lyrics... but you always get misheard lyrics, no matter what language a song is, i never rely on what i hear, the first thing i do once i've listened to an album to catch the music etc. is reading the lyrics

The samples sound really awesome, though I'm having trouble understanding Sandra in the German songs. She does enunciate every single word quite musical-like which makes it hard even for me as a native speaker (or am I the only one experiencing these problems? I mean, Sabine had an uncommon but charming accent and I never had problems understanding her....)

What you are talking about is chemistry. Even in a band this is crucial. Look at Pink Floyd as an example. They made incredible music and albums together (there is definitely a chemistry in their music) yet, Gilmour and Waters couldn't satnd the sight of each other. After so much animosity it led to the eventual disolvment of the band. You certainly hear chemistry in Elis' music. With all the upheaval of the band in the past, members departing and being replaced. Something is working very well for them. A new member steps in and the musical chemistry does not change, also, it seems the band member's depart on good terms, there is your personal chemistry. So the long way around to saying it, is of course your observation about Elis is correct and proven time and time again! : )

they were in fact pretty lucky Sandra showed up to audition. I'm not sure, but I got the impression that they didn't have a very good choice apart from her. so, maybe, without her there wouldn't be a band called Elis now. Musical taste is always something individual of course, so comparing is stupid anyway, there is just no way of telling who is better and who is not. What I can say is true is that the band works just as well with Sandra as it has with Sabine. the interaction is great. not use on stage, but as well on a personal level. it's really hard to tell as you'd have to know them personally (which i do at least a little bit) and you'd have to have known them during Sabine's times (which i again did a bit). there's just something that displays a complete picture, and that's a very important thing.

Better and best are both in the ear and mind of the person. They are both different. Sabine's musical background and Sandra's aren't the same. We can't expect Sandra to sing like Sabine, she isn't Sabine. I haven't heard Sandra sing very many of Sabine's songs, the ones I have, she does a great job. We will all have an understanding of their differences very soon. especially, if you purchase the digipack and get the DVD, even more so with the new album. I would hope most people will wait until the new album is released before making their judgements. To be fair, please don't compare the two, you are starting off the wrong way right there. If you don't like the way Sandra writes or her ideas that 's something altogether different. Remember, the guys picked her to be their front lady, many factors went into that decision. That's what is important here. Elis continuing as a band means Sabine's legacy will live on as well. Sandra is honoring that legacy with grace and dignity.
