So this week I've been digging around for synthpop and I've found some pretty neat additions to my library, as well as revisiting some stuff I've listened to before.
First
Depeche Mode, which should need no introduction, and if it does, you need to start listening to it RIGHT NOW in order to save your poor, sad soul.
Electrocute, another synthpop band with chicks on the vocals, which surprisingly never gets old. Their music is almost as quirky as Freezepop, but its more mature because of the obvious erotic theme going through the songs. I'm digging the song
Blow It and it's bouncy bass + beat which almost reminds me of Daft Punk.
Still listening to
teletextile. It gets more captivating with every listen.
Wolfsheim draws some heavy influence from Depeche Mode but still manages to be entertaining.
God Is an Astronaut, recommended by a friend, sometimes borders on the boring and flat side, but more often than not it manages to be complex and enveloping and engaging (and some other times, emo).
System. When is Last.fm going to solve the problem about the multiple artists with the same name? it sucks, because that link will show 4 different artists with the same name. Oh well, guess they weren't original enough to come up with a good name.
Still, System (The electro/synthpop band) is really nice. Sometimes it tries hopelessly to feel like kraftwerk, (with computer-generated+vocoded vocals and all) but even then it is enjoyable. This is very raw and stripped down stuff, and I'm liking it a lot.
Deepchild, which I have listened to before, are more club-oriented electro, but I found a new album and I liked it.
Also, I was listening to
Silence Gift but I can't give a good opinion on it yet, mostly because I had it on the background and got a bit distracted, but I didn't hate it which is good. I will write more about them later, probably.
Still listening to
Robots in Disguise. These chicks are loud, and aren't afraid of being corny as hell. But hey, me neither.
Lesbians on Ecstasy is pretty much what the name implies. Loud & dirty Electroclash/synthpop with sexual-oriented themes. I didn't like most of the songs to be frank but I did like a couple of them.
Mechanical Cabaret Synthpop with some electroclash and futurepop touches. Reminds me of IAMX but much faster and actually danceable. Not too shabby.
Also still listening to
Simon Viklund, which is the dude who single handedly compose the entire Bionic Commando Rearmed sountrack, and managed to turn 8-bit into awesome and bouncy electro. Also,
Freezepop, which is still my favorite synthpop band, and of the my favorite bands overall.
So yeah this week I went nuts over electro and synthpop, and there is still some stuff on queue. Browsing last.fm and electro blogs have helped me find all this stuff.
