1. What's your favorite song by 14?
King Diamond:The Possession.That song is one of his best work although a lot of the songs on Abigail outshined that one in fans eyes. Never understood it.

R.E.M..Lol my dad's favorite band. I'm surprised there at twenty im not a huge fan but i know a lot of there song because i grew up on the albums. Basically, im a fan of there album Monster.

3. Who is your favorite member in 8?
Anthrax: thats tough. Bello and Ian are my favorite just based on there live performances. I'd say Scott though, i like his personality.

4. Whats your favorite lyric bit by 29?
Eddie Money: ahah well i really dont have one, i like how all his music flows.

5. Have you ever seen 22 live?
Stone Gods: No, they've never played in the United States yet. They're destined for greatness though and i firmly believe they can be the next big band.

Testament: tie between Formation of Damnation and The Gathering.

Alice in Chains: For sure like two tour shirts,a hoodie, poster etc.

Fight: Hmm good memory of Fight would be the first time I heard the song Kill It, if youve heard like the final 50 seconds of the song on either of the album or War of words the film you would know what im talking about hahah. metal all the way with that one.

Black Label Society: uhh no way but they friggin rock for sure though.

10. When did you first get into 1?
Metallica: Mission Impossible 2's song Disappear back in 2000. I watched the music video at such a young age of like 9 or 10, i thought it was the coolest thing ever. I had no clue how much there music change my life after i got my first Metallica album ...And Justice For All. I was just getting into them at there darker years but now i get to see them at there strongest. Death Magnetic all the way!

11. Who likes 4 along with you?
Stone Temple Pilots No one really besides my dad. Again, i heard them at a very young age so i grew up listening to them so im very familiar with them since my pre-teenage years.

12. Which song did you first hear from 15?
The Darkness: I Beilieve in a thing called love, I think pretty much everyone knew the song but didnt know the band themselves. its just one of the those things i got into them just this year i had only heard that song but now i listen to them everyday after going through there albums.

13. What song made you fall in love with 5?
311: I just got into them last year hmm prolly Down or Don't tread on me. Surprising there my fifth i hardly know a lot about them but they have the catchiest songs out.

Pantera: Pantera is the bomb but ive heard so many of there songs over and over it'd be Walk.

15. Why do you like 14's songs?
King Diamond is dark story-teller like. his vocals are insanely impressive too, im still adventurying other albums of his.

16. Where did you first hear 6?
Life of Agony: I got into them last year as well. 2008 and 2009 has been a good year for music findings for me but i think one of my last.fm buddies spiderdan was listening to it on his profile and i wanted to check it out and the song was The Stain Remains.I noticed the choppy heavy guitar work and really digged it, they were the perfect band i didnt know about kinda for my likings.

17. How long was 19 a band before you liked them?
Lamb of God It's debateful when i first started liking them. I'm thinking 4 years but i liked them a lot more when i saw them play with metallica. so ehh idk

18. Does 13 have a song that gives you a bad memory?
Megadeth no not at all there's songs pretty much arent about daily life ha.

19. When did you get into 17?
Faith No More I'm not really sure they came up random a couple years ago when i was on a myspace profile that had the falling to pieces video embedded on theres and it pretty went from there and im glad i found it. i think it was 3 or 4 years ago.

20. How long have you been into 11?
AC/DC: I'm stunned there my eleventh. I honestly dont even care about them but i like there style but theyve never striked me as a band ive liked and i can name a lot of bands after number 11 that i like more. I somehow have like close to 900 plays of them too, hmm oh well Big jack has like nearly 200 plays itself ha..

21. If 9 had a concert 300 miles away, would you drive there to see them?
Judas Priest: no ive drove 150 miles to see them before but im not a hardcore priest fan like that.

Iron Maiden / The Number of the Beast / The Number of the Beast (5) / Mar 1982

sablespecter's Album of the Year for 1982 (RDF: 87.5%)

Well, this is where it all started for me! That's in terms of concerts and my Maiden obsession. When I saw them open for Scorpions at my first concert it was a bit frightening and thrilling at the same time. I won't claim to have a photographic memory of it nor can I remember everything they played since I didn't even know who they were at that point, but I do remember being especially enthralled when they played today's selection. With that forboding intro and that line, "six-six-six! The one for you and me!" I couldn't wait to get ahold of this. And I've never looked back. I still have every copy of this album that I have purchased over the years, even including the totally worn-out, squeally cassette that never left my car for so many years.

The only track that I never got into all that much is the album opener, Invaders. They've only played that track live once ever, I believe, so it's not a broad fan favorite either.

Over all the years of buying CDs, I have only ever purchased two CD singles. Both of them by Maiden and one of them being the 2005 special edition of the single for today's track (the other to be revealed some other time!)

I highly recommend the NotB edition of the Classics Albums series for a very good look at the making of the album. Then follow it up with your own viewing of Damien: Omen II and see if you get a similar dream of your own!

Rounding out the Top Five of 1982 (in order of descending RDF):

Judas Priest: Screaming for Vengeance (80% RDF): And with this began the constant question than ran in all the metal rags in the mid-80s that asked some sort of variation of, "Who rules metal? Maiden or Priest?" As if it was some sort of competition to "win." However, these two classics - which are probably the two albums that brought the two bands their most "mainstream" attention - are two different inflection points. For Maiden, their 1982 album was the one that started their upward trajectory to massive worldwide success, while for Priest it was downhill afterward. So while the two bands were somewhat contemporaries, Priest had achieved most of their best work before this point, while for Maiden it was just beginning. So if you think it was a competition to be won, it would depend on how you define the winner, I guess. If it was having a huge body of classic metal work, it would have been Priest. But as the 80s went on, it would have been Maiden if you define it in terms of massive worldwide fandom.

Asia: Asia (78% RDF): I see looking at the SotD archives that I have never chosen a song from this. I just don't listen to it as much as I did in past years, but still enjoy a full seven of nine tracks. This was the first album that I bought with my own money, during the spring of sixth grade, but it doesn't sound dated to me. Off the top of my head I wouldn't have thought it would make it into the Top 5 of 1982, but when I went back and reviewed the collection during the process of writing these up, that's indeed how it turned out. It has aged well!

Scorpions: Blackout (78% RDF): THIS was who and why I went to that concert in the late summer of 1982. The album had already gone gold by that point and was in heavy rotation in my own collection during that summer of 1982. Favorite song is not the title track of most-often-played "No One Like You" but the lesser played "You Give Me All I Need." One of my favorites in their entire catalog and a song I never skip.

Dire Straits: Love Over Gold (80% RDF): This one manages to sneak past some others on the strength of only four songs, but that's out of five and they actually account for 86% of the album length. It's kind of a short album but opens with my favorite Dire Straits track, and "Private Investigations" is an outstanding smoky, film-noir-on-vinyl!

Blue Öyster Cult / Golden Age of Leather / Spectres (2) / Oct 1977

sablespecter's Album of the Year for 1977 (RDF: 80%)

After bubbling up closer and closer with their first four albums and almost getting into the Top 5 the prior year, BÖC make a great leap forward in my personal library with this widely varying collection. Two reasons why I did not pick the obvious selection (album-opening "Godzilla") to be the SotD: (1) it's already been a SotD (from my most recent trip to Japan last summer) and (2) today's selection about a suicidal biker death match is actually my favorite from the album!

Fleetwood Mac: Rumours (72.7% RDF): If not for the release of one of my two BÖC favorites, this one would have been the winner. It is my favorite FM album, and objectively speaking, is probably a stronger album than my selection. The Grammy and the stratospheric sales (19x Platinum) would certainly support that. It is hard not to award this the AotY on that basis, but I have to be true on this. Integrity can be a bitch sometimes.

Eddie Money / Gimme Some Water / Life for the Taking (4) / 1978

What can I say? I grew up in the 70s and 80s, so I have an affinity for Eddie Money! Though mainly for the stuff from the first five albums from the late 70s and early part of the 80s. Not so much the "less rock/more pop" stuff from the mid-80s, after which his career fizzled anyway.

Since then he's just been milking the small show circuit and back-catalog compilations. You can tell he's milking comps because there's frustratingly no single release the past 20 years that includes all the songs I like.
